Principal Scientist , Reagent and Assay Development

The reagent and assay development team (Pleasanton, CA) at Roche Sequencing Solutions is seeking an experienced Principal Scientist I to lead a team that is developing new reagent and assay solutions in the field of Next-Generation Sequencing.

The qualified candidate will have experience in product development with a focus in library preparation and target enrichment.

Candidates must have strong leadership skills, embrace the importance of communication, thrive in a collaborative team culture, demonstrate capabilities in working across functions, and have expertise in Next-Generation Sequencing product development.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: Leads, grows, and mentors a team of R&D scientists that are developing library preparation and target enrichment solutions for use in NGS applications Effectively communicates information to the development and project teams including business priorities, project updates, and explains the why behind strategy decisions Leads project efforts including owning and/or delegating study design, experimental planning, presenting outcomes, and formulating conclusions Provides support and acts as a resource within the development organization and across other functions (commercial, bioinformatics, medical and scientific affairs, regulatory, global customer support, operations, etc.) Attends and contributes at scientific conferences and reports on key presentations, new technologies, and high profile studies to the greater team Manages a team and has responsibility for hiring new employees, setting individual and team goals, providing performance feedback, and supporting the career development of team members REQUIREMENTS Ph.D.

in Molecular biology, Biochemistry, or related fields with 3 years, or M.S.

with 6 years, or B.S.

with 9 years of relevant industry experience.

Team leadership experience as a line manager and/or a technical project lead is a must NGS product development experience with a strong background in library preparation and target enrichment is a must Familiar with quality management systems is a plus Familiar with liquid handling systems is a plus Team oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to take ownership and accountability Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with cross-functional teams
