Postdoctoral Scientist
– Department of Neurosurgery
– Gonzalez Lab
The Department of Neurosurgery and the Neurovascular Laboratory of Dr.
Gonzalez at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to lead new neurovascular research projects for conditions affecting the cerebral vasculature of patients with neurological and neurosurgical conditions throughout the training period.
Our Postdoctoral Scientist will work with a multidisciplinary team of expert neuroscientists, neuroimagers, neurologists and neurosurgeons to investigate the mechanisms of angiogenesis and arteriogenesis in the central nervous system in patients suffering from cerebrovascular disorders including stroke, moyamoya disease, intracranial atherosclerosis, intracranial aneurysms, and vascular malformations.
You will be primarily based in the group of Dr.
Gonzalez with access to appropriate Neurovascular Laboratory facilities and shared resources of the Neurosciences Laboratories at Cedars Sinai, as well as exciting new opportunities for human tissue access by participating in existing and future, multicenter clinical trials led by Dr.
Gonzalez.
Working independently and in close cooperation with Dr.
Gonzalez and other Research Scientist.
You may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols; analyze and interpret data; may assist in preparation of grant proposals; and participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
Will not responsible for generating grant funds.
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
Designs and performs experiments.
Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data. Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period.
May submit own grants or assist in preparation of grant proposals but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
Will develop, adapt, and implement experiments in tissues and small animal models for evaluation of cerebra angiogenesis and arteriogenesis in ischemic conditions.
Will apply and develop techniques for evaluation of neuronal survival, blood brain barrier disruption, and inflammatory response to cerebrovascular ischemia in small animal models.
Will apply and develop techniques for analysis of human tissues for evaluation of angiogenic factors, exosomal isolation, and micro RNA extraction.
Educational Requirements:
PhD in Vascular Biology, Neurosciences, Biomedical Science or a related field is required
Experience:
At least two (2) years of hands-on experience with the design, execution, and analysis of cellular, molecular, and/or biochemical assays focused on angiogenesis, neuronal survival, blood brain barrier disruption and inflammatory responses in vitro and in vivo.
Technical skills should include experience with most or all of the following: PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, Luminex, cell-based assay development (e.g.
cellular cytotoxicity, proliferation, reporter, ligand binding, etc.
with multiple readouts), FACS, Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry.
Works independently on research projects designed by one or more mentors within area of specialization.
Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
Knowledge of safety standards of specialized equipment.
Has excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, self
– and time-management skills, and the ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
Desirable but not required experience with small animal models of cerebral ischemia, such as MCAO (permanent and with reperfusion) carotid ligation and chronic carotid stenosis.
