Packaging Specialist

What you will be doing

The Packaging Specialist serves as technical and creative support to the Sr. Manager, Brand Design and Packaging Operations. This position supports the project management and financial activities of the end-to-end package development process for Own Brands. The Specialist interacts with all cross-functional departments, as well as external design, pre-press, print and product suppliers to ensure that the assigned brand projects are executed to high quality company standards completed on time and within the approved budget. This person will demonstrate ownership over all key accountabilities.

The Own Brands team has an opening for a Packaging Specialist. This position can be located in any of the following locations: Pleasanton, CA, Phoenix, AZ, Plano, TX, Boise, ID.

Main responsibilities

Support brand design and packaging operations

  • Manage the day-to-day execution of Packaging development project kick-offs, final color proofing, and photography scheduling.
  • Plan, organize, monitor, and execute Innovation project kick-offs with Regulatory, Product teams, Packaging Project Managers (PPM), external design and production agencies and Brand Design.
  • Assist with assigned UPC distribution and maintenance of UPC database.
  • Receive, output, prepare and review final color proofs for timely approval.
  • Analyze and monitor packaging process KPIs. Initiate regular process reviews and recommendations with the Packaging Director.
  • Assist the Senior Manager Brand Design/Packaging Operations at photography sessions facilitating the photographer scheduling and product collection.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, external design and production agencies to develop and improve efficiency of packaging development processes and share out within the Own Brands organization through training sessions and documentation.
  • Manage and share design assets with cross-functional teams and external agencies.
  • Assist with loading of packaging specifications within Spec Right, as needed.

Support in-market success of initiatives

  • Support end-to end processes as directed and ensure continuity between creative, production, design agencies and the supplier/printer contacts.
  • Assist with trademark initiation and facilitate legal review for all appropriate brand and packaging-related projects.
  • Assist the coordinator with requisition generation and PO creation as needed.
  • Manage positive relationships with third-party vendors to meet packaging deadlines, communicate to internal teams, and provide updates as needed.
  • Ensure all information on packaging is correct. Work closely with our Legal team to ensure Trademarks, claims and third-party messaging are used properly on packages.
  • Assist with image searches, packaging mock-ups, and data-gathering for imaging and presentations.

What we are searching for

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business Marketing, Design, or Finance
  • 3+ years of Packaging or Marketing experience or equivalent
  • Strong attention to detail and background
  • Proficient in Microsoft platform, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to combine creative problem solving, data analysis, and strategic thinking in a fluid environment
  • Ability to analyze multiple data sources and draw conclusions
  • Financial understanding of packaging-related metrics
  • Proven project management skills and ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
  • Experience in leading projects, cross functional teams, and influencing others, including senior leadership
  • Ability to foster relationships, collaborate with others and work effectively in teams
  • Self-motivated with the ability to act with a sense of urgency, commitment, and integrity

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10%
