Packaging Design Engineer

Position

Overview

This role will manage the coordination of packaging data associated with the technical packaging development of products. This role will engineer quality and cost effective packages.

Essential Job Functions

:

  • Identifies viable packaging options and alternatives.
  • Make 3D models of selected designs and adjust as needed
  • Optimizes and harmonizes technical conceptions.
  • Evaluate 3D files from the manufacturer for dimensional accuracy
  • Responsible for management of new tooling development and validation.
  • Engineers technical conceptions to cost.
  • Supports and drives value analysis initiatives.
  • Supports and drives packaging consumer complaints and nonconformities to completion.
  • Responsible for 1st AC reception quality in the plant.
  • Fully owns specifications (AC & PF).
  • Analyzes and approves technical drawings through tolerancing and stackup evaluations on critical assemblies.
  • Evaluates risks and develops clear mitigation plans.
  • Fully owns technical milestones in project timelines; ensuring on-time validation date.
  • Drives sustainability initiatives.
  • Defines appropriate testing plan and analyzes / interprets results.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues (supplier, plant, distribution, quality, etc.)
  • Develops and maintains a professional knowledge of new or emerging trends in packaging technology, inclusive but not limited to color cosmetics and liquids.
  • Review samples from manufacturing
  • Up to 25% travel to suppliers and plants.
  • Enter key performance indicators related to the function

Requirements

:

  • 5+ years of Packaging experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong PC skills; MS Office, PowerPoint and CAD software.
  • Good communication skills, to be able to deal effectively with all levels of the organization and our suppliers.
  • Good organizational skills to manage the documentation, materials and information.
  • Understand mold functionalities, molding processes, finishing techniques, etc.
  • Understand plant and contract manufacturing capabilities.
  • Basic knowledge and use of statistics (i.e. Cp, CpK)
  • Location: West Los Angeles (required to work in company office when it is safe to do so)
