The Role

As a Vehicle Controls Software Manager, you will lead the vehicle controls software development effort for different Xos platforms. You will be responsible for planning, creating, and maintaining complex software development for the Xos connectivity platform. You will be hands-on with the development process and act as a mentor to the team junior members. You will be responsible for all powertrain and body control.

Requirements

  • B.Sc in electrical engineering/control engineering or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in embedded software development, and 3+ years of experience managing development teams
  • Experience managing a product team through the requirements, design, prototype, development, validation, and launch phases of successful new product introductions
  • Expert in C/C++, Matlab, Simulink, and Stateflow
  • Familiar with Functional Safety ISO 26262
  • Expert in software architecture and software development process design
  • Familiarity with embedded control hardware and microcontrollers
  • Experience developing embedded software for real-time systems using model-based development method in Matlab is a must
  • Working knowledge of automotive communication technology and protocols (CAN, J1939, etc.)
  • Experience with change management tools such as JIRA, Requirement management tools such as Jama, etc.
  • Familiar with version control tools such as Git or SVN
  • Motivate other team members, be responsible and organized
  • Will excel in the startup environment (fast-paced, small team, wear many hats).
  • Obsessed with solving complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in electrical engineering/control engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience managing teams in developing vehicle software in the automotive industry
  • Experience with electric powertrain technologies
  • Previous experience in the automotive industry
  • Experience developing production code/model for automotive application
  • Project management experience

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspect of vehicle Control Software development for multiple platforms on Xos vehicles
  • Setup internal development processes to deliver high quality software on time and within budget
  • Build a team composed of SW engineers in order to achieve the first goal
  • Lead the team’s efforts in extending the capability of Controls to cover more challenging driving scenarios and new vehicle platforms.
  • Participate in design and code reviews.
  • Set up processes within the team to ensure high-quality engineering architecture and design along with fast, reliable, testable production code
  • Work with Technical Project Managers and Senior Engineering Managers to develop and execute project roadmaps
  • Collaborate with recruiting to scale the team
  • Foster a collaborative culture of testing, safety, and documentation
  • Increase the productivity of the team by identifying process gaps, common pain points, and scalability issues and develop a plan to address them
