Machinist NC, General- LG 18 (2nd Shift)

Position Summary

Position Summary:

To set up and operate any CNC machine, run for first part verification, check prior to submitting for approval.

  • Works from sketches, blueprints or written instructions, verbal orders or other specifications as required.
  • Makes layout as required to establish reference lines and points for machining sequence selected. Computes and locates unknown dimensions as when compound angles are involved.
  • Analyze tooling to improve tool life and prevent discrepancies.
  • Make recommendations for process improvements to optimize operations.
  • Set up and operate Mill Turns and other Multi Axis CNC machines
  • Support secondary operations while machines are operating, such as ; Deburring, degreasing etc.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties, such as 6s(house-keeping and organizing) on any shift as required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, qualifications, competencies, abilities and any physical demands if required.

Must have had sufficient experience in machining parts and a knowledge of mechanics to plan required machining and determine fits, threads, dimensions and tolerance from use of function of part.

Must be able to read and interpret a variety of blueprints found in machine shop work and work from shop sketches, oral and written functional information and worn part samples. Must be able to make all calculations for complete part layouts and surface plate checkouts.

Education, Experiences, Certificates/Licenses and/or Registrations:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.

• High school diploma or GED or 10+ years of practical experience in machines shop.

• Or vocational training and 5+ years of practical machining experience

Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time to perform their daily duties. The employee is required to reach with arms and grip with hand. Employee is also expected to communicate effectively with colleagues. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull or move up to fifty (50) pounds or more with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

1. Occasionally required to lift up to 30 lbs.

2. Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.

3. PPE required and may vary per each function performed, such as; Safety glasses, safety shoes (steel or composite toe), ear protection, gloves

4. Occasional exposure to shop element such as noise, dust, odors and fumes.

Typical Materials, Tools and Equipment Used:

Materials worked on: Variety of Steels, Inconel, Aluminum, Carbon, plastic, Rene-41. Ferrous and non-ferrous metals in various forms; bar, tube, plate, casings, forgings, etc.

Tools used: Machinist’s hand tools, depth mic, plug gage instruments as precision blocks, sine plate, micrometers, calipers, indicators, dial bores and air gaging equipment, hand tools, etc.

Equipment used: Mills; 3axis, 4axis, 5 axis, Multi axis Mill Turns, Lathe; 2 axis and Multi Axis Turning.

Please note that the salary range information is only applicable for California. Compensation is based on a variety of factors, candidate experience, qualifications, location as well as market and business considerations. Pay Range: $36.00/hr.- $38.87/hr.
