The Boeing Defense, Space and Security, Space and Launch division is seeking an Experienced Electronics Packaging Design & Analysis Engineer (level 4) to provide support to the Electronic Products team located in El Segundo, CA. Part of Boeing Space and Launch, the Electronic Products team manages the electronic products within the company’s major commercial and government satellite programs for communications and national defense, as well as within the company?s other programs across the world, including commercial and government avionics, space exploration, and multiple defense vehicles.
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for helping oversee the mechanical and thermal analysis of the broader Product Design team, helping audit models, validate results, and improve processes, tools, and workflows. This position coordinates with various other engineering and non-engineering teams in order to analyze customer and system requirements to develop architectural approaches and detailed specifications for various electronic products, as well as to develop high-level and detailed designs consistent with requirements and specifications. This position also validates designs through various methods of review, testing, and analysis, and identifies, tracks, and statuses technical performance metrics to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements. The analytical methods used include finite element models/simulations and hand calculations, which are done throughout the product life-cycle. Additionally, this position provides engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product, and investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
Position Responsibilities:

Advises across a broad design team for various mechanical and thermal analyses, overseeing the processes, tools, and roadmaps.

Advances analysis capabilities by developing necessary workflows and toolkits

Coordinates with multi-discipline teams to develop and understand requirements and develop high-level and detailed designs consistent with those requirements

Participates in mechanical design and configuration development by performing trade studies to optimize structure and meet program and system requirements

Creates detailed mechanical CAD models for electronic unit designs

Participates in materials and processes (M&P) selections for mechanical designs
-
Interfaces with vendors and supplier engineering representatives that provide components and assemblies that are integrated into mechanical designs

Performs and documents tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Performs and documents detailed structural, fatigue, and thermal analyses using hand calculations and analysis tools to ensure mechanical designs meet system and environmental requirements

Creates and releases engineering drawings for fabrication parts and assemblies in compliance with ASME Y14.5 specifications

Collaborates with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Leads, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to perform sizing and placement studies, as well as layout and routing printed circuit boards (PCBs) and microelectronics modules

Supports mechanical testing of flight and development hardware; correlates mechanical test data to analysis results

Develops, deploys and supports new mechanical processes and process improvement to enable efficient performance of engineering tasks to reduce cycle time and drive product improvements

Participates in Root Cause, Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts to investigate failures and create go-forward plans

Prepares information and technical content for Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings and program design reviews

Documents and shares knowledge and lessons learned with the mechanical team
This position requires the ability to obtain U.S. Security Clearance post start, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship
An interim and/or final U.S. top secret clearance Post Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

B.S. or higher in engineering field

5 or more years of design and analysis experience of electronics

Experience performing stress, thermal, fatigue, fastener, and tolerance analysis using analysis software and manual hand calculations

Experience with designing and analyzing for Space and/or Aviation environments
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

M.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, or Civil Engineering

Experience with 3D modeling software

Experience working with mechanical and thermal analysis tools, including but not limited to ANSYS mechanical/IcePak, FloEFD, NASTRAN and COMSOL

Experience with Model Based Engineering and Analysis

Experience with analysis tool creation and process development

Experience packaging mixed signal circuits

Experience with releasing drawings and using geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 standards

Experience participating in mechanical and environmental tests for design validation

Experience in designing for manufacturing, assembly, and test (DFMAT)

Experience managing and leading engineering project teams, including developing and managing budgets and schedules

Experience documenting and sharing knowledge and lessons learned

Typical Education & Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
