Horticulture Specialist

The starting pay rate for this position is $22.11 per hour.

Horticulture Specialists support the activities of the Horticulture Department by contributing their knowledge and skills to the technical functions of the team. They partner with management to create and maintain the seasonal-bedding-plant calendar. They also communicate using Access or alternate programs on a daily basis in regards to plant quantities as provided by documentation, delivery schedules, substitutions and record keeping for routine/event seasonal bedding plants used at Disneyland Resort. They also participate in the support for all event programs as they relate to Resort initiatives, partnering with the Horticulture Managers and other departments.

Responsibilities :

  • Rose Program: Knowledgeable in rose care in Southern California for various rose classifications, including proper rose training and pruning techniques, fertilization, pests and disease recognition, planting and general maintenance.
  • Subject Matter Expert in Plant ID within perennials / annuals to contribute to the ongoing development and sustainment of the bedding plant program
  • Subject Matter Expert in Plant ID for western ornamental shrubs, with background in nomenclature, culture needs, diversity in plant design and ability to identify appropriate plant material for detailed themed landscape designs
  • Working knowledge of containerized plants, including hanging baskets, for compatibility and environmental needs
  • Technical knowledge of irrigation scheduling and hardware for water conservation and knowledge of Evapotransporation based irrigation central control systems.

Basic Qualifications :
Schedule Availability – Individuals must be available to work Friday/Saturday/Sunday including any shift and during holidays.

  • Strong computer knowledge with the ability to input, track, update and prepare reports from Microsoft Excel/Access plant material databases.
  • Ability to interpret landscape architecture plans and provide recommendations based on plans and landscape & irrigation conditions. • Ability to photo document landscape-related installations organize the photo data and provide detailed reports to management.
  • Basic CAD skills to support Horticulture projects and events (desired, not required)
  • 5 years proven Horticulture field experience • Two year Horticulture degree can be substituted for 3 years field experience

Preferred Education :
• Certified Arborist
• Qualified Applicators Certificate or License for Ornamentals ( IPM )
