Chief Data Officer – Remote

The Chief Data Officer, a senior member of the Center for Internet Security (CIS) CIO organization, leads the development of data resources and analytical initiatives that enable a data-driven operating culture.

The role is responsible for helping establish and overseeing the data governance processes and their effective implementation within CIS.

This includes ensuring assignment, training, and coordinating CIS data owners; guiding CIS’s data governance and standards; ensuring effective management of data; and providing direction for CIS regarding data quality, data science discipline, data driven decision making, and process automation.

What Youll Do

  • Enable organizational mindset shift from data being a byproduct of business to it having intrinsic decision-making value.
  • Responsible for the design and development of an enterprise-wide master data model.
  • Lead the Data Governance Working group.
  • Working with data owners, identify processes and tools that will allow staff to analyze data and support data-driven decision making.
  • Advise the business leadership team on analytic value opportunities on an ongoing basis and translate business problems into specific analytics and technology-enabled solutions.
  • Recommend standards and processes for analytics solution development and implementation across all critical functions of the company.
  • Keep current and inform the CIS team regarding the latest data science, analytics, and technology trends and their impact on business strategies and operations.
  • Work with business owners to identify critical questions to answer through data, including the associated metrics and measurement, in order to meet business goals.
  • Mentor and empower staff, organized by data domain, to be responsible for data quality measures, standardization and cleansing rules, and remediation efforts.
  • Work with CISO to inform data security, risk, and compliance.
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

What Youll Need

  • 10+ years of experience with a focus on data, analytics, business intelligence, and technology.
  • 3+ years in the role of Chief Data Owner or equivalent.
  • Proven understanding of statistics, structured and unstructured data analysis, predictive modeling techniques, and data visualization, as well as good command of emerging methodologies like AI and ML.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay up-to-date with developments at the intersection of data science, technology, and business relevant to the company and drive business innovation through analytics.
  • Documented track record of delivering actionable insights, recommendations, and quantifiable benefits to business leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, strategic, and operational initiatives.
  • Capability to think strategically, balancing a broad range of internal and external factors when identifying problems, proposing solutions, and making decisions.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, drive consensus, and influence relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to interact appropriately with all levels of the organization.
  • Experience managing key performance metrics and understanding their respective impact on business strategy; most notably the application of data to drive measurable business results.
  • The position is open to U.S.

    citizens and requires a favorably adjudicated DHS Fitness Review for Public Trust Positions**

  • Full COVID-19 vaccination may be required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Its a Plus if You Have:

  • Masters degree in related field.
  • Experience in the cybersecurity field to include understanding of relevant threats, regulations, and security standards.
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).
  • Practical experience in applying machine learning and related technologies.

*Additional years of relevant experience or a combination of an Associate’s degree or equivalent and relevant experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.
