Grant Writer

Summary: The Grant Writer is part of a development team and is responsible for strategizing, designing, and writing grant proposals and letters of inquiry, including grant reports that support the ability of InnerCity Struggle (ICS) to realize the organization’s purpose and vision.

This is a full-time position.

The ideal candidate is a skilled, persuasive writer and editor who can capture the significance of ICS’s impact in a clear and compelling way.

This position is based at the ICS headquarters in Los Angeles, though remote candidates will be considered. Core Responsibilities Work closely with program staff to strategize, design, write, edit and submit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports to foundations, corporations, individuals and other organizations.  In partnership with the development team, check for appropriateness and feasibility of proposal design and budget.  Write acknowledgement letters and prepare other reports and correspondence to support the development goals as needed.  The Grant Writer works closely with the development team to research and identify funding sources. The Grant Writer will also support other writing projects as needed including funder reports and briefings.   Other duties as assigned. Skills and QualificationsThe following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill, and and/or ability required: Education: Bachelor Degree from an accredited college and university is highly preferred.Prior Experience: 2-5 years of experience in grant writing. Knowledge of social justice, philanthropic landscape highly preferred. Passion for and knowledge of issues in: education, housing, early education, and economic justice highly preferred. Demonstrated success in securing grants, managing a team, and building donor relationships. Skills/Proficiencies:  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must. Independent, self-motivated, highly adaptable, and goal oriented. Ability to synthesize and translate verbal and written information.  Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Office Suite. Demonstrated success managing multiple projects at the same time and ability to manage high-pressure situations;  Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships across departments
– both remotely and in person. Familiarity with the Los Angeles non-profit landscape, community organizing, and other education organizations.  Available to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required.Special Requirements: Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.  Strong interpersonal skills.

– USD $64,896 / year Competitive pay is commensurate with experience.
