It’s Work That Matters.

The Board Certified Genetic Counselor is responsible for providing pediatric clinical genetic counseling services to patients and their parents. The Genetic Counselor works collaboratively with our Geneticists and/or Physicians to provide comprehensive assessments and medical genetic counseling, reviews implications with the patient and families and provides crisis intervention regarding unexpected genetic conditions. The Genetic Counselor will also mentor genetic counseling students and entry-level staff.

Minimum Qualifications : 2+ years of experience as a genetic counselor required. Experience in pediatric genetics or equivalent work preferred. Experience in pedigree analysis, risk assessment, screening, testing, counseling, and identification of support resources required. Thorough knowledge of theories and principles of human genetics. Knowledge of clinical features and natural history of a broad range of genetic diseases. Familiarity with general indications, limitations and methodology of common tests used in the areas of cytogenetics, biochemical genetics, and molecular genetics. Experience with clinical interpretation of exome and NSG-based tests.

Education/Licensure/Certifications: Master’s degree from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited genetic counseling training program required. Genetic Counselor License or Provisional Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California. Board Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics.

You must be willing to reside in the state of California, and have a primary work site in the state of California, to be considered for this position.
