Role description:Arcadis is currently seeking Environmental Inspector/Biological Compliance Monitor to support a variety of environmental inspection and biological project support for utility infrastructure in Nevada.This position based out the Arcadis’ office in Reno, NV will require strict adherence to health and safety procedures, strong work ethic, excellent communication skills and a passion for high quality workmanship.Role accountabilities:Under supervision of senior
– staff, support a regionally-focused multi-disciplinary team of scientists (i.e., biologists, cultural resources specialists, etc.) provide compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulationsCoordinate with land rights specialists, and customer relations and government relations professionals to achieve specifically defined project goals and objectivesOversee installation, maintenance, and removal of environmental mitigation measures including erosion and sediment controls, spill prevention and containment measures, etc.Direct crossings of jurisdictional waterbodiesTechnical ability to read and understand detailed engineering plans, construction drawingsAbility to communicate with construction contractors to maintain compliance requirements in a collaborative, non-confrontational mannerIdentify and initiate corrective action for problem area and non-compliance on active construction projects Participate in construction meetings and tailgate sessionsConduct daily field inspections of active crews and document contractor compliance with project requirements including inspection of erosion and sediment control measures and for evidence of spillsConduct environmental sampling as necessaryPrepare and submit concise written daily inspection reports including photo documentation, construction status reports, and compliance tracking logsEffectively and efficiently managing desktop environmental assessments using GIS and other available methods to address potential permitting requirementsConducting field reviews and site visits with other technical specialists, engineers, and construction personnelMaintaining electronic file systems and record keeping using SharePoint and other cloud-based platformsQualifications & Experience:Required Qualifications:3 years of experience in the environmental fieldPreferred Qualifications:BA/BS degree in environmental science, biology, cultural resources or other similarPrevious experience in managing environmental inspection projects for linear utility projects including overseeing contractor implementation of environmental conditions and mitigation measures as set forth in permits, plans and procedures, the FERC Certificate, and all other permits, clearances, or other authorizing documentsPrevious experience permitting requirements for linear utility infrastructureKnowledge of regional sensitive habitats and special status wildlife and plant speciesExhibit solid, practical skills in Microsoft Office applications [spreadsheet (Excel), word processing (Word), and presentations (PowerPoint)]Willingness to travel to support medium term inspection programs (5-9 months)State issued Erosion and Sediment control certification if applicableExperience with digital data collection tools including (but not limited too): Fulcrum, ESRI’s ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps, GPS, etc.Working knowledge of standard utility construction methods, specifications, and standardsAbility to communicate with construction contractor to describe deficiencies and how to get back into compliance in a collaborative, non-confrontational wayPrior experience with SWPPP, BMP, and erosion controls, including overseeing installation, maintenance, and removal of erosion and sediment control measuresKnowledge of safety procedures while working around heavy equipmentExperience with authoring daily inspection reports, conducting field audits with photo documentation, and overseeing contractor spill responseWhy Become an Arcadian?Our work with clients has a direct impact on people’s lives and on the planet.
