Elementary Math Specialist

Located in Foster City, Ronald C Wornick Jewish Day School is a pluralistic community day school for students from TK until 8th grade. We are a warm and welcoming community with a collaborative team focused on bettering our school, supporting our students and welcoming our families. Wornick Day School is seeking an elementary math specialist for the 2022-2023 school year. The math specialist will serve as a teacher in our elementary school and will be responsible for teaching math curriculum to students as well as collaborating with math teachers to design lessons, assessments, and communication to our community.We are seeking a teacher who is experienced in progressive educational environments with a concentration in the content area of math. This position has the potential to be part time if desired.

The math specialist will:

  • Design engaging math lessons and unit plans under the supervision of the principal and other educational leaders at the school
  • Differentiate math lessons effectively for diverse learners in the classroom
  • Support teachers in creating appropriate and engaging individualized work for students in support of plans created with parents, tutors, aides and specialists
  • Assess students’ math achievement and progress frequently and effectively to ensure grade level standards are being met
  • Document student learning to evaluate trends in math learning as well as to support teachers in sharing assessment data with families
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
  • Assist the administration in creating a respectful school environment in support of the behavioral and cultural policies of the school
  • Collaborate regularly with lower school colleagues to support student learning
  • Recognize parents as critical partners in student learning and utilize support services within the school
  • Use technology appropriately to advance learning goals
  • Attend all staff meetings and fulfill other duties assigned by the principal (recess duties, club supervision etc)
  • Receive and provide feedback in a professional manner with other school professionals

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have 5+ years of classroom experience as a lead classroom teacher
  • Have 3+ years of math leadership experience
  • At a minimum have a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred)
  • Have a California Teaching Credential (preferred)
  • Have experience with math program implementation in the K-5 level
  • Be familiar with progressive educational approaches (Project Based Learning, student centered classroom, flipped classroom, etc)
  • Have experience with Google Classroom, G Suite, and other LMS a plus
  • Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum design
  • Possess a love of learning and a passion for engaging students
  • Have experience differentiation for diverse classroom learners
  • Be a collaborative team member who will seek advice from peers and rely on the professional expertise of our administrators and support services
  • First aid/CPR a plus
  • Experience with independent schools a plus!
