Deputy Mission Operations Lead Roles and Responsibilities The Deputy Mission Operations Lead is the on-site lead for all Mission Operations personnel assigned to the execute operations for the program in Colorado Springs, CO reporting to Mission Operations Lead located in Dulles, VA.
S/He will also provide direction as needed for other Integrated Operations Directorate personnel during program development activities and other functional personnel supporting specific activities as listed below.
The DMOL has responsible for 5 major areas: Facility (operations center) readiness
– primary interface for customer personnel to ensure operations center requirements are understood and hardware and software is installed and properly configured to support operations activities.
Work with Mission Operations Lead (MOL) and Program Leadership as appropriate.
Staffing and personnel readiness
– work with the functional and program leadership (including Sr Manager, Mission Operations Development) to ensure all COS Mission Operations staffing requirements for the program set are identified and met.
Create ops team staffing plans and ensure all personnel are trained, certified and tasked appropriately.
Communicate with other functional managers related to mission staffing needs and training/certification requirements.
Ensure recurring training and certification/re-certification are completed.
Product readiness
– assist MOL to ensure operational products are ready for readiness events and operations.
Interface with program and customer personnel related to schedules and deliveries.
Ensure all operational products are tested and ready for delivery.
Assess product readiness and take action as required.
Programmatics
– support MOL providing critical and periodic status to program and functional leadership; develop required metrics and respond to issues and/or variances as necessary; support CCB process.
Interface with customers and brief at milestone events per PMO direction.
Operations
– support operations and readiness events as Mission Director or other designated mission role.
Manage anomaly resolution process by coordinating review boards and interface with customers and PMO.
Help identify, track and resolve any PRs or AIs resulting from mission activities.
The DMOL should participate in the review or development of documents affecting operations in all phases of the mission.
A list of typical program documents produced are as follows: Operations Process Documents: Operations Development Plan Concept of Operations Mission Operations Plan Rehearsal Plan Transition Plan Discrepancy Report & Plan Anomaly Review Board and Plan Lifecycle Sustainment Plan Training Documentation & Plan Reference material: Satellite Operations Handbook Spacecraft System Summary Telemetry and Command Handbook Parameters Handbook Test and operational procedures: Sequence of Events In-Orbit Test Plan In-Orbit Test Procedure MOC Compatibility Test Plan MOC Compatibility Test Procedure Console Operations Procedures (including scripts and tlm pages) Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) and 14-20 years’ experience in a related engineering field such as mechanical, electrical, aerospace and/or operations OR a Masters Degree (STEM) with 12 years’ of experience; 9 years of experience with a PhD.

Hands on experience in the planning & execution of real-time spacecraft commissioning activities for commercial, NASA and/or DoD space missions Thorough understanding of space system components and spacecraft subsystems Integration and test of new ground hardware and software components into existing infrastructures Familiarity with Mission Operations Center architectures and interfaces Familiarity with space system operational documentation Experience leading teams of operators or engineers in execution of complex missions Ability to communicate technical topics to senior company and customer representatives Existing TS/SCI required Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the design/development/test/system engineering of ground system architectures Development and testing of real-time executable mission operations procedures and executable scripts Managing cost and schedule; Earned Value Management System (EVMS) experience a plus Performing data flow testing including ground stations & Mission Operations Centers Space system simulator and test bed operations Space system engineering activities such as requirements management, I&T, architecture, software development of flight/ground software Generating and managing technical staff and staffing plans Development of training plans or curriculum for space systems Salary minimum: $141,440 Salary maximum: $212,160 Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
