Cutting Operator I (1st & 3rd Shift)

Job Description WORK SCHEDULE: 1st Shift (5:00am
– 1:30pm, Monday
– Friday) At this time, 1st shift roles are eligible for a $750 3rd Shift (8:30pm
– 5:00am, Sunday
– Thursday) At this time, 3rd shift roles are eligible for a $3,000 sign on bonus .

All 3rd Shift employees receive Shift Differential pay SUMMARY: The Cutter Operator is responsible for the setup, adjustment, and safe operation of all cutting equipment to prepare product to be packed, collated or bound, ensuring the meeting of customer specifications, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Access the batching system to view batch lists and identify priority jobs to be completed for gang runs (Batch List will identify batches as either past due batches or next day priority) Review job tickets and plan work processes strategically to meet customer specifications for custom jobs Login to batch detail/cutting process system to show where press sheet is to be cut Mark press sheet with marker to show cutting lift quantity so packers can retrieve required boxes Inspect press sheet and identify order types and communicate with side cutter operators Setup assigned apparatus to job assignment specifications, obtain approval of setup and run product when indicated by Supervisor or Plant Management Accurate document press sheet information (dates and counts) in logbooks Monitor assigned apparatus during run to ensure adherence to specifications and make adjustments as needed to maintain specifications and operating speed Ensure the completion of assignments by meeting quality/quantity specifications and requirements Troubleshoot machine issues, if possible resolve it and notifying Bindery Supervisor and/or Plant Management Replace worn cutting blades with hand tools when required Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.

Ensure all equipment, tools, and workstation are in good working order and is free of safety hazards Report any and all workplace hazards to management immediately Wear all assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required Report all work related injuries, illnesses, and/or near misses to management immediately Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations Maintain departmental housekeeping standards, such as keeping floors swept and absent of debris that may be a work hazard QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS: Minimum 1-year experience with Polar or Saber cutting machines preferred Able to read and comprehend job assignment tickets and customer instructional specifications Communicate effectively Good hand/eye coordination Excellent attention to detail DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS: Able to resolve practical problems with logical solutions in a timely manner Quality oriented Team player willing and able to stay and finish the job assignment Flexible to cross train and work in other departments, apparatus Happy to work and accept varying shifts PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
