Customer Application Specialist – Metalworking Fluids

Job Summary

• Utilizes technical know-how on specific product lines, tests methods for the industry and/or product use in metalworking fluid applications to sell chemistries in the segment.
• Supports test method development in conjunction with external test method societies.
• Performs hands-on work in the lab and educates the commercial team on demonstrating the value of the product.
• Leverages advanced experience in formulation and application of metal removal fluids, metal forming fluids, and metal cleaning/surface preparation and other related applications.
• Develops lasting expert-to-expert technical relationships with customers by providing a technical “voice of customer” for new product development activities.
• Collaborates with the global marketing and technical leaders to develop, enhance and present value propositions for specific targeted growth products/applications.
• Works closely with the commercial and global technical service teams to deliver/exceed the business plan and leverage global knowledge.

Job Responsibilities

• Partners with the commercial team to deliver the business plan by developing customer intimacy and generating/presenting relevant, credible, high quality technical information for targeted customers in prioritized markets.
• Interacts directly with key customer technical contacts and major influencers to clearly understand customer needs and constraints. Develops appropriate test methods and data to determine how chemistry can address these needs better than competitive solutions.
• Educates Account Managers and distributors to understand the value provided by chemistry in prioritized applications and ensures the message presented to customers is consistent throughout.
• Designs and manages scientific method experiments to develop repeatable high-quality data by technologists and contractors.
• Effectively manages sensitive and confidential internal and external information and documentation.
• Understands unmet customer needs in prioritized and adjacent markets and ensure these are brought to the strategic marketing team and R&D. Submits worthy ideas into the innovation management process.
• Acts as a liaison between R&D and the commercial team/customers to enable adoption of innovation within market.
• Provides regular documentation of laboratory results as formal reports.
• Presents papers at relevant conferences as well as writes technical articles for peer-reviewed journals building credibility and visibility for technology.
• Stays current with developments in prioritized market segments including technology, trends and competition through journals and trade publications, attendance at conferences and seminars.
• Follows all required EH&S standards, policies and procedures in all internal and external activities, and leads by example.

Job Requirements

• Minimum five years of experience in an industrial laboratory position, formulating End user products in the related field.
• Willing to travel up to 30%
• Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion
• Strong interpersonal and project leadership skills
• Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues from multiple geographies, as well as regional distributor partners and customers.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to present complex information in an understandable way to various audiences.
• 6-sigma green belt is a plus

Educational Background

• Bachelor of Science, Master of Science or PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, biological or material science

Salary: $110-140K plus bonus

  • Oversee internal application laboratory work to support customer projects
