The Enterprise Functions Division of the Wells Fargo Legal Department provides legal advice and support to companies and businesses throughout the Wells Fargo & Company global enterprise. Our scope of responsibility includes effective legal and regulatory advice to Wells Fargo Technology (WFT), which provides technology products, services and enterprise governance in support of Wells Fargo’s customers, business partners and team members.  

This experienced technology attorney will provide dedicated full-time service and support to WFT’s operations, controls and infrastructure, including strategy, planning and analytics, and independent risk management. This role will include frequent interface and collaboration with Legal counterparts in Technology, Corporate Properties Group, Third Party Contracts, Security, Corporate Risk, Regulatory Relations, Privacy and Wells Fargo lines of business.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with and advise IT professionals, technologists, risk and control management, and privacy and data security professionals on compliance with U.S. federal, state, and global laws related to global and enterprise technology operations.
  • Provide advice related to third-party service providers, complex third-party contract negotiations, and due diligence obligations
  • Provide legal advice and support for regulatory activities and related communications related to technology
  • Provide strategic thought leadership for technology operations, controls and infrastructure
  • Be skilled with gathering information in a fast-paced business environment, understanding business needs and goals, detecting legal issues and obstacles, identifying legal solutions and alternatives, and succinctly and competently counseling and communicating with technology professionals and managers regarding legal risks, solutions, and alternatives

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney
  • Active State Bar membership

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze legal and regulatory issues in area of practice and provide effective advice to clients on complex legal matters
  • Extensive experience conducting research and providing counsel and guidance regarding complex legal issues
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with a high degree of collaboration
  • Effective in building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working for the success of the team

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Prior expertise in legal, regulatory, and compliance issues relating to technology, including knowledge of FFIEC IT handbooks and other regulatory risk management guidance related to oversight of third-party technology service providers and consultants, privacy, big data, outsourcing, artificial intelligence, cloud technology, export laws, and information security laws.  
  • Prior experience in effective engagement with technology leaders, senior management, risk, compliance and audit professionals, and external regulators. 
  • Prior experience advising technology professionals in the implementation of U.S. and international laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance related to technology
  • Prior experience providing legal support or representation to clients in the technology industry, addressing issues such as product development, software licensing, software maintenance and support, regulatory compliance, issue management, or in the acquisition, deployment, and use of technology, IP, or big data
  • Ability to evaluate impacts based on changes in U.S. and international laws or regulations 
  • Experience developing and executing appropriate solutions to complex problems
  • Prior in-house experience at a large financial firm or experience at a bank regulatory agency is preferred, but law firm experience also will be given consideration
  • Candidates must be able to assume responsibility quickly and have the ability to work in a complex environment requiring a high degree of collaboration and across multiple jurisdictions
