Coordinator, Community Science ProgramThe Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 107 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County-including NHM at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. Hart Museum in Newhall-is looking forward to new building projects and campaigns, exhibitions, community outreach, and innovative audience engagement.The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a part-time temporary Coordinator, Community Science for our Research & Collections – Community Science department. The Coordinator, Community Science works closely with the Senior Manager, Community Science to provide support for the Community Science office in various areas including program coordination & metrics tracking, communications & website, partnership relationship building, administrative paperwork, and anti-racism efforts in our work and field at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:* Oversees community science program planning and implementation such as purchasing supplies and working with vendors to obtain CS program supplies, track data/metrics of CS programs and projects, supports evaluations efforts for CS programs and projects, and produces outreach materials associated with the CS office programs and projects* Oversees community science office logistics such as schedules meetings, takes notes, creates timelines and deadlines, follows up on action items, writes reports & coordinates CS program calendars, provides administrative budget support, coordinates online outreach including web pages, social media, blog posts, and coordinates communications including CS emails & observation submissions via e-mail, text, and social media* IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and access): Attends weekly anti-racism meetings with community science office team members and works to ensure CS work is grounded in DEIA work.* Works with and supports local partner organizations to execute CS initiatives throughout Los AngelesThis position has the following requirements:* 1-3 years of experience in community science, field study projects, environmental justice, or community organizing.* 1-3 years of experience developing and facilitating educational programs.* Preference will be given to those who have conducted programs in South Los Angeles, East L.A., and neighborhoods adjacent to the Natural History Museum and/or other park-poor neighborhoods.* 1-2 years experience in coordinating projects.* Experience engaging audiences through social media.* Experience managing volunteers (adult and teen).* Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred but not required.* A valid California Driver License and Personal Automobile Liability Insurance.* Ability to travel throughout L.A. County for meetings, site visits, and events.* Bachelors or higher degree in environmental/outdoor education or museum/community-related field (science education, environmental justice, community organizing, biology, environmental studies, ecology, botany, geology, museum studies, etc).The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County values and endeavors to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and access within its organization and communities.
