In this position, you will provide technical support for Energy Solutions, Process Automation Energy Industries (PAEN), delivering superior, professional service, remotely or on site.

You will be responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of ABB distributed control system (800xA and Symphony) at ABB customer facilities (such as refineries, water systems, power generation units) under general supervision. This includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of proprietary ABB hardware and software. Primary duties will be commissioning of projects, upgrades, new installations and advanced services. This individual will be required to work independently or as part of a small site team to provide service for customers of ABB distributed control solutions.

Your responsibilities

  • Maintain ABB’s suite of distributed control system (DCS) hardware and software. Handle customer questions about the state of the ABB system
  • Handle customer service related issues while fostering the customer relationship and working to solve technical problems on site. Deal directly with and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, third party vendors and other ABB personnel in support of service operations
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment applying own technical knowledge and experience to resolve problems. Training on ABB products and services will be provided; however, a basic understanding of computer networks, computer software(operating systems) and DCS (Distributed control system​) systems (architecture, project engineering and HMI (Human Machine Interface​)/graphic creation) is required in order for the training to be beneficial. Recommend changes such as new equipment or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Conduct detailed inventories and inspections to determine necessary maintenance and repairs
  • Accurately document the work that is performed at a customer facility and/or project staging area. Professionally document work completed on periodic preventive maintenance as well as intermittent corrective maintenance tasks. Assist in planning and coordinating team efforts. Often work non standard schedules at field locations with exposure to varying environmental conditions
  • Perform field service operations that may involve unusual problems requiring strong technical skills. Conduct tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of equipment and procedures. Record, compile and reduce data for analysis and assist in related assessment and preparation of reports. Construct prototype models, as requested

Your background

  • Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree and 1 year of professional work experience OR
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in similar field OR a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments
  • This position requires 80% travel on demand
  • Candidates must know how to trouble shoot and install DCS systems, knowledge of ABB’s Harmony/Symphony is a plus
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
