Responsibilities
We are seeking a highly accomplished leader to join one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the nation as the Chief Academic Information Officer of the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM).
Reporting jointly to the Dean of the DGSOM and the Chief Information Officer of COMPANY Health Sciences, you will manage the non-clinical information technology systems for the DGSOM and the schools of nursing and dentistry. In addition, you will manage the audiovisual (AV) systems for all of COMPANY Health Sciences. You will be both a member of the DGSOM leadership team and the COMPANY Health Information Technology leadership team. In partnership with the Chief Information Officer, you will serve as the Health Sciences schools and COMPANY Health IT liaison to campus information technology groups, governance, and strategic committees, building relationships and partnering closely with campus IT leadership. You will stay appraised of the campus IT initiatives and strategic roadmap.
The DGSOM is comprised of 24 academic departments, 5 organized research units, and 5 interdisciplinary research centers and is the academic home to approximately 3,200 faculty and 2,500 trainees, students and fellows. The DGSOM employs about 6,200 staff and non-faculty academics. The DGSOM’s annual revenue totals approximately $3 billion, its expendable net assets total approximately $1 billion, and its endowments and quasi endowments total approximately $1.5 billion.
The COMPANY Health IT organization is comprised of three divisions: Information Services and Solutions (ISS), the Office of Health Information and Analytics (OHIA), and Digital Technology (DGIT). ISS is responsible for the clinical, financial, and operational technologies for the COMPANY Hospitals and the COMPANY Faculty Practice Group (FPG). OHIA is responsible for the stewardship of health data, enterprise reporting and analytics, and the technological tools and platforms to provide such information. COMPANY IT Services implements and maintains campus wide enterprise business and data management systems which support core DGSOM business functions such as finance and accounting, research administration, personnel management, student administration, etc. DGIT is responsible for the research, education, and school specific administrative technologies for the DGSOM and the schools of nursing and dentistry.
As the leader of the DGIT organization and peer leader of the COMPANY Health IT organization, you will serve as a liaison to and advocate for the Health Sciences schools to ensure that the COMPANY Health IT and COMPANY IT Services organizations provide services and solutions to support the schools strategic plans and information technology infrastructure. This is accomplished through a close collaboration and partnership with other COMPANY Health IT leaders including the Associate CIO & Chief of Enterprise Applications, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer, Chief Medical Informatics Officer, Chief Data Officer, and Chief Information Security Officer, as well as with campus IT leaders as needed.
You will work closely with leadership in academic units, such as but not limited to, the COMPANY Institute of Precision Health (IPH), the Department of Computational Medicine, and the Department of Human Genetics within the DGSOM. Those units are home to world class researchers in research computing and engineering, and as the Chief Academic Information Officer you will be expected to partner with those units to facilitate and leverage cutting-edge advances in research.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for a master’s or doctoral degree in Data Sciences, Computational and Quantitative Biology and Medicine, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or related computational or basic sciences research field.
- Extensive senior leadership experience in a large, complex integrated health system and university setting
- Direct management experience of information technology operation(s)
- Strong and broad knowledge of opportunities and challenges facing the educational and research components of an academic medical center
- Demonstrated experience in research information technology needs
- Demonstrated experience in education technology principles and analytics
- Evidence of ability to work in a dynamic matrixed environment and to engender cooperation and collaboration through building strong relationships
- Extensive experience leading large change management projects and the ability to obtain buy-in and active participation from stakeholders across the organization
- Leadership skills as evidenced by one who possesses assertiveness and diplomacy in the presentation of ideas and initiatives, and sensitivity to the values and expectations of all constituents
- Evidence of a management style that inspires a culture of achieving excellence through teamwork, trust, collaboration, and accountability
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing multi-year roadmaps.
