Charles Abbott Associates: Assistant Or Associate Engineer

CAA is currently accepting resumes for full-time Assistant and Associate Engineers to work in the Los Angeles/Ventura, California region.

Under general direction, the Assistant/Associate Engineer will perform a wide range of engineering duties related to the design, organization, management and review of projects and programs within local Engineering/Community Development/Public Works Departments.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Administer stormwater source control programs (NPDES); assist/conduct plan-check review and process plans for private developments and municipal capital improvement projects including grading and drainage, streets, sewers, stormdrains, and related public works facilities to ensure that they meet all State and locally imposed requirements; administer constructioncontracts for the same; and coordinate between other City departments, consultants, utility companies, and other affected parties.

Draft correspondence to the public, businesses, and agencies; and represent City departments at meetings with other agencies.

Prepare cost estimates and special engineering studies and reports; conduct and/or manage records, drawings, maps, and file updates; Monitor and record traffic accident reports; monitor traffic flows, apply for various grants, and administer various traffic related programs.

Project Management for assigned capital improvement projects including but not limited to: management, coordination, and inspection; monitoring to ensure timely construction progress, application of proper procedures, and budget compliance; preparation of status reports; assistance in land acquisition/right-of way; and processing progresspayments.

Review draft form of plans and specifications for compliance with bidding procedures and legal requirements prior to final bid package; coordinate bidding and make recommendations; function as liaison between contractors and public; oversee construction.

Monitor statutory changes affecting Community Development and Public Works, and assist in the preparation of ordinance revisions to attain compliance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance.

Candidates should have graduated from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering.

Experience in municipal engineering and/or public works is preferred but this may be an opportunity for the right recent graduate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of: principles, practices and methods of engineering as applied to the planning, designing and construction of private development and public works type projects; surveying; inspection procedures; stormwater monitoring; and flood plain knowledge.

Ability to: perform engineering computations; check designs; prepare engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates and engineering reports; deal effectively with builders, engineers, architects and the general public; operate personal computers and appropriate engineering software applications including autocad and GIS; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives from other agencies, the public and City staff.

Having an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate, or the ability to obtain a professional engineering license (PE) within 2 years, is desirable.

Job Type: Full-time Salary: $60,000.00 to $85,000.00 /year
