Camp Counselor (August-June)

CAMP COUNSELOR (August 2021 to June 2022) About us Los Angeles Unified School District Second largest in the nation, the Los Angeles Unified School District enrolls more than 600,000 students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

The District covers 710 square miles, and includes Los Angeles, as well as all or parts of 31 smaller municipalities, plus several unincorporated sections of Los Angeles County.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is currently seeking cabin counselors to supervise elementary school students at Camp Skyhook @ Clear Creek Outdoor Education Center, a residential outdoor school (overnight science camp) located in the San Gabriel Mountains approximately 30 minutes from Pasadena and Glendale.

Camp Skyhook serves 5th grade girls and boys from throughout greater Los Angeles.

Two available shifts: 10am Mon to 12:30pm Wed AND 12pm Wed to 12pm Fri.

Counselors are paid for 24 hours each shift.

The program operates weekly throughout the school year (August through June).

Counselors spend both nights during their shift sleeping in/supervising student cabins.

Applicants should be comfortable with moderate hiking and be able to lift up to 35 pounds.

Most importantly, applicants MUST enjoy working with children and have a sincere desire to provide positive guidance to urban youth in a mountain environment.

Typical duties include: Supervise groups of 10 fifth grade students (cabin time, free play, meals, clean-up, etc.) Assist trail teachers with hike supervision and instruction Counsel students in appropriate behavior Promote a positive team atmosphere Lead group building activities, games, crafts, songs and campfire skits Assist with unloading and/or loading of student luggage.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate with a STRONG work ethic and proven leadership skills.

Experience in environmental education, organized residential camping, recreational leadership, team building and/or other youth advocacy helpful.

FBI and DOJ fingerprint clearance required if hired (facilitated through LAUSD).

TB clearance required.
