Job Summary

 

Reporting to the Director of Nursing ADN, assists students in the attainment of academic achievement through effective performance management and oversight as a liaison with Director, Assistant Director of Nursing, faculty and various departments such as, but not limited to: Career Services and Admissions for the purpose of increasing retention, identifying and mitigating potential and current retention issues and assesses student progress and strategizes with students, advises various leadership of retention issues and process and provides academic support, and evaluation related to scheduling, financial needs and grades. Establishes specific learning objectives, conducts remediation workshops and tutorials, and develops methods to ensure graduates pass NCLEX with a satisfactory level of performance of higher than 80% pass rate for first time test-takers.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Advises, counsels and provides supplemental academic instruction to nursing students.

Develops an individualized success plan and records for each student based in part on the admission exams.

Enhances student success through personal and academic coaching, developmental workshops, increased student engagement, and referrals to other campus resources.

Meets regularly with identified students to assess their needs, assists in academic planning and goal setting, and monitors their attendance and academic progress in both theory and clinical

Maintains documentation of all student interactions and generates regular performance reports summarizing student progress.

Monitors student success on ATI exams. Tracks required ATI remediation are completed on time.

Assists students in navigating academic and non-academic resources on campus, online, and in the community.

Evaluates data such as proctored assessments, time in tutorial sessions, and pre/post tests on comprehensive predictors to appropriately advise the Director of Nursing and identify faculty who can assist with resources related to providing services for increasing skills and study strategies to increase retention and student success. Makes recommendations, adds and/or adjusts student’s individualized education plan based on the data and recommendations from Director of Nursing and faculty.

Ensures full integration of ATI tools in all courses to prepare students for the NCLEX testing. Creates methods for integrating NCLEX style questions in course lectures.

Evaluates curriculum to ensure it effectively addresses NCLEX subject matter areas and recommends appropriate changes to improve NCLEX performance.

Participates in Faculty Meetings. Tracks attendance, including theory and clinical make-up hours. Advises/counsels students about attendance issues and professionalism issues as per ADN policy.

Required Education, Certifications, and Licensures

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college which shall include courses in nursing, or in natural, behavioral or social sciences relevant to nursing practice.

License & Certification: Current unencumbered Registered Nurse License in California required.

Current CPR card.

Preferred Education, Certifications and Licensures

A master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing, education or administration preferred.

Additional course work in counseling or education preferred.

Required Experience and Skills

Must have a minimum of three (3) years practical experience as a licensed registered nurse. With at least one (1) year of direct patient care within the last five (5) years or one (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency within the last five (5) years.

Advanced knowledge and abilities in the following areas: student development/engagement, experience with high risk students from diverse backgrounds, effective study skills and learning strategies, active learning, effective communication and problem solving strategies would be most beneficial in this role.

Leadership knowledge in the program field to cultivate a learner-centered environment and to foster excellence.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
