Description: Veterinary Technician

Job Summary:A Veterinary Technician provides animal care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures; assisting during induction of anesthesia for surgical patients and collaborates with surgeon and staff on patient care.

Duties/Requirements

The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 1-2 years direct experience as a veterinary technician
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as mental reasoning and mathematics skills
  • Willingness to learn, be guided, and pursue continuing education opportunities
  • Ability to be confident around animals, showing proper safety and restraint techniques (i.e. dogs, cats)
  • Be experienced with basic veterinary medical concepts including but not limited to vaccine protocols, diseases management, anesthetic risks and euthanasia
  • Familiar with Animal Behavior
  • Be proficient at animal restraint for various procedures
  • Experience with performing basic lab tests
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity
  • Lifting animals of all sizes, bending, stooping and walking on a daily basis
  • Administer animal vaccinations, tests, medications and treatments as directed or other duties as assigned.
  • Train and supervise staff in performing physical assessments, flow and monitoring of surgery patients and basic medical procedures
  • Cross train volunteers
  • Actively support volunteers; promote the development of skills related to the advancement of our goals and mission of SNPLA
  • Perform basic lab tests using in house equipment (eg centrifuge monitoring)
