PURPOSE OF POSITION The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), operator of the METROLINK Commuter Rail System, is seeking temporary a Special Services Employee (SSE)
– Maintenance Technician I.

The SSE/TEMP
– Maintenance Technician I will perform a variety of maintenance functions in carpentry, construction, painting, welding, electrical HVAC and plumbing.

This at-will employment will be for a limited term of up to, but not to exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30) or six (6) months, whichever comes first.

Perform routine preventive maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment including visual inspections.Receive and fulfill work order requests from department management.Perform preventive electrical maintenance on all types of electrical equipment; diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions.Adhere strictly to safety rules, regulations and safe work practices.Perform carpentry, door hardware and painting projects as needed.Cut and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass or drywall using hand and power tools.Lay out, fabricate and weld complex materials using gas, heliarc and acetylene equipment in the shop and at field sites.Install and replace electrical circuits, switches, panels, conduit, wiring and fixtures.Maintain, analyze, and repair digital controls, frequency drives, related controls and recording systems.Operate and make regular inspections of transformers, circuit breakers, automatic motor control circuits, disconnects, overhead cranes, exhaust and intake fans.Assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of telephone systems.Build and install a variety of materials throughout the facilities.Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience High school diploma, GED or its equivalent.A minimum of three (3) years experience in carpentry, welding, HVAC and electrical fields.A minimum of one (1) year experience planning welding work, making estimates on required materials, use of equipment and test equipment.A combination of training, education and or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered when determining minimum qualifications.

Advanced relevant coursework may also substitute for a portion of required experience.Valid Class C Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record of no more than three moving violations and no DUIs within the last three (3) years.

Preferred Qualifications Technical trade schoolHVAC, electrical, carpentry, and/or plumbing professional license.

Work may also be conducted in outdoor environments, at construction sites, Railroad Track and Right-of-Way environments, and warehouse environments, with possible exposure to individuals who are hostile or irate, moving mechanical parts, and loud noises (85 decibels, such as heavy trucks, construction, etc.) Selection Process: Following a review of resumes and/or applications, the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the selection process.

Offers of employment may be contingent upon successful completion of a reference check, including degree verification and criminal records check provided through SCRRA.
