Sr. Technician, Product Development (MRI Safety)

Our location in Sylmar, CA currently has an opportunity for a Sr. Technician, Product Development (MRI Safety).

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Work with engineering on development, qualification, operation and maintenance of test fixturing and complex instrumentation and equipment systems used for product characterization and verification. 

  • Coordinate and execute building of prototypes/products/tooling per engineering design and instruction as required. Utilize fine-motor and basic fabrication techniques such as soldering, laser-welding, adhesive bonding, reflow, etc. with mastery.

  • Handle and maneuver small components and parts and work under a microscope on occasion.

  • Basic circuit design and development including schematic entry, layout, creating/adjusting matching networks, testing and troubleshooting.

  • Test, update or repair PC circuit board using test stations and soldering equipment and/or tools.

  • Work in a wet-lab environment and handle basic lab chemicals using the necessary safety protocols.

  • Perform experiments and tests associated with a variety of projects as assigned by engineering.

  • Utilize electronic data collection systems and computer software packages and analyze data using basic statistics.

  • Participate as required within R&D on various engineering efforts for new product development and product characterization.

  • Assist in the generation of documentation (i.e. drawings, specs, procedures, travelers, protocols, reports, data-sheets etc.) required to support product development, equipment and test-method/procedure development and qualification.

  • Troubleshoot and suggest creative solutions to design and testing issues.

  • Prioritize work by determining the sequencing and timing of different jobs based on precedence and importance.

  • Follow safety guidelines and utilize appropriate safety devices when performing all tasks that require such precautions. 

  • Create and maintain accurate records to recreate desired build processes, designs and test setups. 

  • Willingness for active participation, active listening, interpreting, cooperation and flexibility to allow for a successful self-managed team.

  • Be able to clearly communicate ideas, problems and solutions to engineers.   

  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.  Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Two-year degree with 6+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and technical work experience.

  • May also require a license or certification in the area of expertise.  

  • Applies extensive knowledge of complex technical concepts and practices, and a complete understanding of product or systems fundamentals in a functional area, and working knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Ability to read and understand mechanical/electrical engineering drawings and specifications

  • Functional competency with general lab electrical/mechanical test instrumentation (oscilloscopes, function generators, vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, power meters, amplifiers, thermometry, data acquisition electronics, multimeters etc.).

  • Functional competency with basic circuit design and development including schematic entry, layout, creating/adjusting matching networks, testing and troubleshooting.

  • Functional competency with general electrical/mechanical fabrication techniques such as soldering, laser-welding, adhesive bonding, reflow, PCB repair/modification, etc.

  • Strong verbal and written communications (including technical communication) with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

  • Utilizes/interprets advanced numerical and statistical data and/or computer software programs to present documentation and analysis and resolve production, technical, or systems problems. Will perform this job in a quality system environment.

  • Failure to adequately perform tasks can result in noncompliance with governmental regulations (Cognitive Skills)

  • Performs extremely complex or specialized technical assignments usually in the nature of projects, requiring working independently.

  • Design, develop, or modify area-specific equipment, materials, systems, and/or product.

  • Assignments require considerable judgment, high degree of initiative, creative approaches in troubleshooting, and making recommendations for continuous quality improvement of work methods for functional area.

  • Strong computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).

Preferred

  • Knowledge/proficiency with OrCAD, Mentorgraphics PADs, AutoCAD, Solidworks, Creo, Minitab, Labview, etc.

  • Prior experience in the medical device industry.
