– East County Pet Emergency & Specialty Center East County is now hiring a Veterinary Technician to join our AMAZING AVIAN/EXOTICS DEPARTMENT team!
Our Avian/Exotic Specialty Department has a rare FULL TIME opportunity available for an experienced veterinary technician (RVT preferred) who loves to work with an amazing variety of patients!
We are looking for someone who is proficient with the following skills: * Handling and restraint of a wide variety of patient types: small mammals, birds, reptiles, aquatic species, even occasional primates!* Venipuncture and IV catheter placement on exotics patients* Anesthetic induction (RVTs) and monitoring of sensitive and potentially critically ill patients* Run in-house lab samples and handle submissions to outside laboratories.* Perform treatments and husbandry for hospitalized patients, including providing status updates to the Doctor as indicated.* Strong client communication skills are a must: technicians obtain histories, present treatment plans, review discharge instructions and medications, and provide client education on proper husbandry and care of their unique pets.* Adaptability: the exotics team sees scheduled appointments as well as walk in emergencies throughout their day* Trainability: we are willing to train new skills if you?re willing to learn and try!
