Description: JOB DESCRIPTION:Under direct supervision, prepares dialysis and Reverse Osmosis equipment before each hemodialysis session; cleans and sterilizes machines per protocol after each dialysis session; delivers equipment and supplies to patient room as scheduled; assists nurse with set up and break down of equipment in patient room before and after hemodialysis; performs quality control procedures (e.g., machine and water testing, routine maintenance) on machines; performs supply inventory, ordering and restocking; works cooperatively with staff and other departments in maintaining hemodialysis standards of care; supports compliance with departmental policies and procedures; maintains confidentiality.May assist RN with annulation and removal of needles from grafts and fistulas.May initiate and discontinue hemodialysis treatments under the RN supervision in the dialysis unit only.Supports compliance with department policies and procedures; performs quality control procedures (e.g., machine and water testing, routine maintenance) on machines; and maintains confidentiality.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalent.Completion of a dialysis preparation course AND one year of patient care experience in a dialysis facility or acute dialysis setting OR two years of patient care experience in a dialysis facility or acute dialysis setting.Certification as a hemodialysis technician is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium Max 25lbs): up to 25 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 25 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required.
