The Senior Staff Attorney position is a FULLY REMOTE in-house position that will handle a designated caseload of Workers’ Compensation cases appearances before the California Workers’ Compensation Boards in Los Angeles, Marina Del Rey, Oxnard and Van Nuys. This position will be part of collaborative learning environment with onsite appearances in partnership with our Attorney team. RESPONSBIBILITIES:

Analyze complex legal and factual issues, conduct extensive and develop well-reasoned legal research

Independently create and present defense strategies on behalf of clients

Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies with autonomy

Partner with our Claims Partners to achieve the best results for our Hartford insured

Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice and other services to clients on legal and factual issues

Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel and co-counsel with professional diplomacy and discretion

Facilitate prompt, efficient and effective disposition of assigned cases
-
Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial/administrative hearings, arbitrations and alternative dispute resolutions

Research, draft, file and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients

Provide in-house training to junior associates and/or claims partners.

Participate in claims file reviews.

Attend continuing legal education seminars in order to maintain high level of professional expertise.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Minimum of years of legal practice experience handling complex/life pension Workers’ Compensation cases
-
JD from accredited law school and license to practice in the state of California
-
Trial experience is preferred

Positive minded and collaborative team-player attitude
-
Excellent legal research and writing skills
-
Strong MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)

Lexis Nexis experience is a plus!

Self-directed with excellent organizational and prioritization skills

Strong computer skills and the ability to quickly leverage new software as required

This position is a remote work opportunity however, our selected candidate will travel 1-4 days per week (pending future court openings) within the following geography: Los Angeles, Marina Del Rey, and Van Nuys, California.
