The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in the Department of Ophthalmology are actively seeking a full-time faculty member for the position of Assistant Professor of Research Opthalmology.

The candidate’s research should be focused on regenerative and cell-based therapies for both retinal and neurodegenerative disorders.

The candidate will actively participate in ongoing research projects to develop high content model systems to translate molecular and functional observations into translational correlations for patients affected by these degenerative disorders of the retina and optic nerve.

The goal of this research program is to improve the mechanistic understanding of the physical and biological underpinning of visually impactful degenerative disorders.

Moreover, with this knowledge, the successful candidate will help establish molecular and cellular based therapeutic models for translational research and ultimately clinical management for these patients in partnership with the clinicians at The Vision Center.

The Vision Center laboratories provide an invigorating, collaborative, and productive work environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong basic science background with extensive experience in retinal and neural development, with a strong publication record, excellent analytical and communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary research team.

The candidate should have a Ph.D.

(or equivalent) and the demonstrated ability to conduct compelling independent research and to attract external research funding.

This position will be on an annually renewable contract with startup commitments and expectations detailed in the contract.

The contract’s renewal will be contingent on sufficient funding.
