WordPress-WooCommerce Backend Developer- Fully Remote Role

Requirements:

  • 3+ years’ experience with building, supporting, and maintaining back end of WordPress websites including API integrations and writing of custom code when that is a better solution than relying on a plugin to solve a problem
  • 3+ years’ experience with troubleshooting issues with WP site speed and performance and implementing solutions to ensure great end-user experience
  • Adequate development experience to be able to actively contribute to and effectively evaluate development and code of external contributors.

Key Skills:

  • Proficient using WordPress and WooCommerce
  • Advanced skills in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery
  • Debugging tools such as Firebug and Chrome Inspector
  • Strong understanding of backend website development and where the lines are between backend and frontend responsibilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work on and keep track of multiple projects at once
  • Ability to use charts, diagrams, flow-charts, etc. to graphically communicate processes, project status, team focus, etc.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work remotely and independently without being micro-managed
  • Ability to prioritize and also to pivot when priorities are shifted based on company focus

Job Duties:

As a WordPress Backend Developer, the employee will be expected to focus primarily on development/maintenance of our core web properties as well as building new properties as they are needed. Maintenance responsibilities will be to eliminate as many plugins as possible in favor of streamlined code. Will also work to help project manage external vendors responsible for hosting our sites or providing other services that contribute to or support our sites

  • Work with current development staff as well as closely with marketing Front End developer and creative team to continuously improve the customer experience for our web properties.
  • Employee will NOT be responsible for designing the look and feel or customer UI experience but will work closely with those that are.
  • Maintain well-documented, reusable, and transferrable code and work to have primary code base and functionality be the same across our properties
  • Stay current on new developments in WordPress, WooCommerce, HTML5 and other relevant software, trends and practices.
