Technician

We are looking for an Electrical / Mechanical Technician (or similar) to help us assemble, run, and troubleshoot a completely new method of manufacturing.

In this role, you will serve as the main person responsible for all interaction and operation of our robotic manufacturing process.

You will read mechanical and electrical drawings and work with engineers in assembling components, creating wiring harnesses, and running integration tests.

We’re looking for someone with prior exposure to electrical work, and someone who is excited about the risks and rewards of joining an early-stage startup.

What we’re building: We’ve developed an entirely new technology at the crossroads of 3D printing and automated textile manufacturing.

By skipping the flat 2D fabric stage, we can additively build custom apparel products from the ground up
– straight from yarn to final product.

If sustainable fashion and robotics get you excited, we’d love to talk About you: You’ve soldered many things before, and feel comfortable learning new things.

You have strong interpersonal skills and can communicate issues with designs that may appear during testing.

You’re open to learning how to read electrical and mechanical schematics (or maybe you do already).

You likely have a few projects in your portfolio where you’ve helped build something that moves.

You enjoy thinking three-dimensionally and problems with no obvious answer excite you.

You’re fascinated with the intersection of art and engineering, and continuous learning is a fundamental part of who you are.

You are energized by working on hard problems within an evolving R&D environment.

You will:
•Act as the main teammate responsible for all operation, testing, and upgrade of our machine (don’t worry, we’ll teach you)
•Work cross-functionally with the mechanical, automation, and software teams in our office in SoMa, San Francisco.

•Assemble, install, and maintain custom mechanical assemblies, wiring harnesses, and electrical cabling within our machines.

•Run and lead tests to gather data for process validation.

•Integrate and tune control systems for custom hardware systems.

•Write and maintain useful documentation.

Requirements:
•Prior experience in a technician role, or you enjoy building things yourself.

•Experience soldering, crimping, and otherwise assembling cabling for signal and power.

•Experience running (and potentially maintaining) automation machinery.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•Willing to do hands-on experiments and testing in our SoMa hardware facility.

Nice to haves:
•Experience in circuits.

•Experience in additive technologies such as 3D printing.

•Experience with industrial electrical systems or controls hardware.

•Experience with industrial electrical systems or controls hardware.

•PLC programming experience.

•Knowledge of Real-time Operating Systems on microcontrollers (RTOS).

•Knowledge of USB/Ethernet development on microcontrollers and in a Linux environment.

Our philosophy: We won’t roll our eyes if your socks don’t match.

We get it.

But then, if you spend those extra few minutes in the morning matching your socks and shirt, we get that too.

Our workspaces are sometimes spotless and sometimes chaotic, and we celebrate messy exploration.

We work through complex problems but generate simple and elegant solutions.

We strive to look at things differently, and never do anything solely because “that’s the way it’s always been done.” We’re a team of designers and engineers, industry-veterans and serial entrepreneurs, artists and developers.

We’re aspiring chess masters and climbers, capoeiristas and bakers, snowboarders and photographers.

Originally spun out of Stanford and the University of Colorado, we now call downtown San Francisco home, with strong ties to Hong Kong.

We are looking for teammates who share our desire to work on ambitious problems and leave the world better than we found it.

Compensation: $40,000
– $45,000 USD unspun is an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to being a diverse team that reflects a broad range of background, thought, and experience.

We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, national origin, status as an individual with a disability, status as protected veteran, or any other legally protected characteristics.

Women, minorities, and people from underrepresented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
