We are actively seeking a Software Engineer on the Core Infrastructure team!

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join Honey.

This person will focus on design, development, and deployment of some of Honey’s core infrastructure and build tooling, assisting in operational tasks, monitoring, incident management, and work on build pipelines.

You can expect to work very collaboratively with other engineers on the team, as well as with other software engineering teams within Honey.

Your contribution will help us maintain a high degree of autonomy and empowerment for developers while helping to improve reliability, observability, and stability.

About the Team and Role:
You will be joining a highly skilled team who are the organizational experts in management, scaling stability, and evolution of Honey’s predominantly Cloud-based systems.

The team constantly evaluates new technologies and contributes to the engineering direction of the organization.

Honey Engineering is heavily built on Google Cloud Platform, Terraform, Python, Node.js and CircleCI, and follows a microservice-based architecture using Docker with Kubernetes.

You are expected to be acutely familiar with network fundamentals, containerization, service and repository scaling.

The team is a strong advocate for engineering best practices.

They drive creative ways for bridging different technology stacks as our integration with core PayPal systems deepens.

You are expected to collaborate with, and influence different teams across the organization.

Effective communication, methodical approach and get-it-done attitude are a must.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage, monitor, and evolve highly scalable, distributed systems to create highly available and resilient services
  • Drive the design and implementation of org.

    wide initiatives like multi-region support, large scale event planning (seasonal and burst)

  • Play key role in the prevention, investigation, and mitigation of production outages.

    Drive process, help determine contributing factors / implement fixes

  • Lead by example in all aspects of Operational Excellence
    – planning, monitoring, alarms, dashboards, escalations, on-call
  • Collaborate with engineers in the deployment and scaling of new product features
  • Actively contribute to compliance, risk assessment and other regulatory initiatives
  • Develop effective tooling, alerts, and responses to both identify and address reliability risks
  • Identify and automate repetitive, manual tasks.

    Debug software at the code and infrastructure level.

    Participate in an on-call rotation

About You:

  • Collaborative, curious, and able to communicate effectively
  • Able to write idiomatic code in a high-level programming language such as Python, Ruby, or JavaScript
  • Experience with git and modern source control and CI/CD practices
  • Familiar with IAC / infrastructure automation (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
  • Production experience with major public cloud providers –
    – we use GCP, but experience with AWS or Azure is also fine.
  • Containers and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Comfort with databases and in-memory key/value stores.

    (MySQL, Postgres, Redis, MongoDB)

  • Experience with service monitoring: Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, or similar tools
  • Solid knowledge of Linux/UNIX and networking fundamentals
  • Passionate about open-source software and the latest system architecture trends

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience with distributed repositories: Spanner, MongoDB, CouchDB
  • Experience with business continuity and capacity planning best practices
  • Experience with Node.js and NPM
  • Previous experience with GCP
  • Experience with service discovery or service meshes
  • Previous experience with risk and compliance assessment procedures
