Hardware Design Engineer

Seeking an experienced Sr. Electrical Test Equipment Design Engineer to join our Avionics Engineering Test Equipment Design organization. This position will be located at our facility in Canoga Park, California (Los Angeles area) and will report to the Avionics Special Test Equipment (STE) Design Manager.

The applicant should have the expertise in electronics and automated test system design. This task includes

Our automated test systems include those designed for testing analog, digital and high power electronics for space and defense applications. Units requiring automated test range from single-board computers, data acquisition boards, valve actuators to rocket engine controllers used in space-based applications. The automated test systems perform acceptance testing at the PWA (board) and unit (box) level. The applicant should be familiar with standard test equipment (stimulus and measurement devices, both analog and digital) and capable of designing custom interface circuits where COTS equipment does satisfy test requirements. Familiarity with STE software (LabVIEW & LabWindows) is desirable.

In this role, you will initially support a defense program. In addition, you will perform an array of technical and project engineering related duties in support of a variety of Avionics STE design projects.

Working under limited general direction, responsibilities include, but are not limited to

The person in this position will be responsible for hands-on test and test system design, as well as providing project management and leadership for less senior personnel.

70% – Hands-on design of an automated test system. This includes planning the design, defining the design requirements, executing the detailed design (hardware, software and mechanical packaging), integrating and verifying the test system and provide resolutions of anomalies occurring during integration and test of a test system, as well as during subsequent delivery and test system usage.

15% – Leading design teams of 2 or more people on automated test system development activities with cost and schedule accountability.

5% – Supporting test system proposals and bids.

Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and five (5) or more years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Proficiency in the
    • Design of test consoles, test adapters, and/or test cables;
    • Development of test system requirements and verification methodologies;
    • Development of test equipment drawings;
    • Integration of test hardware and test software;
    • Development of test procedures;
    • Troubleshooting of equipment, circuit boards, cables, etc.;
    • Providing resolution of test anomalies.
  • Hands-on experience with Test Instrumentation such as Oscilloscopes, Multiplexers, Logic Analyzers, Data Acquisition systems, etc.
  • Experience with scripting language such as C, C++ and/or proficient in the use of the National Instruments (NI) development suite (Lab Windows/CVI, LabVIEW and TestStand).
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and drive toward goals.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to coordinate and collaborate with local/on-site teams, as well as teams at other sites.

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
