Wireless Network Engineer Contract to hire Location 3 hour driving distance from Los Angeles Remote work for the contract duration this will be 100 remote, once this person is brought on it will be 98 remote.

The Wireless Network Engineer should have broad network background specializing in the Wi-Fi discipline and will be tasked with supporting the Networking team and the Infrastructure group within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department.

This individual will be responsible for day to day wireless administration of 9,350 Access Points (APs) supporting 60K users.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS The candidate for the position of Wireless Network Engineer must meet the following qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Five years of experience in network engineering or wireless networks Experience managing and documenting wireless networks, overlaying APs onto CAD (or similar) blueprints for heat mapping, and with 802.11abgnacax, RF design and WLAN fundamentals Ability to design, deploy, and troubleshoot large-scale wireless networks with proven experience in troubleshooting isolation and remediation Experience with wireless optimizations, including AP placement, achieving ideal signal levels, optimized roaming, spectrum selection, channel tuning, cell optimization, QoS, and more Solid understanding of LANWAN and network protocols and wireless monitoring tools for quick issue resolutions Experience designing controller clustering, failover methods and caveats, group management, AP modes of operation, patching, RF management, similar tasks Demonstrated discipline recognizing and handling confidential and sensitive information, with proven ability to provide detailed information and summaries to management-level individuals and groups Experience troubleshooting client experience tests and wireless packet analyses, managing support cases with external technology vendors, and performing active and passive wireless site surveys Ability to understand and work with large, complex systems, and develop positive working relationships and strong rapport with team member PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS The ideal candidate for the position of Wireless Network Engineer meets the following qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc.

More than five years of experience in Network Engineering Understanding of ITIL frame work and ServiceNow or other ticketing systems CWNA, ACMA, ACMP, ACCP andor CCNA Wireless certification(s) Ability to analyze network packet traces using Wireshark or other network analyzers Experience in IT, network engineering, AAA andor wireless networks Experience with Aruba Wireless and ClearPass NAC Knowledge of server and virtual technologies.

Experience in higher education THE WORK YOU WILL DO The Wireless Network Engineer builds and maintains the university’s wireless network.

Provides network engineering and technical support for wireless network infrastructure, ensuring systems operate at peak efficiency with little to no downtime.

Designs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains university network equipment across multiple platforms.

Ensures all networking activities are aligned to industry best practices as well as ITS and university policies, processes, and procedures.

Provides technical and training assistance to other ITS teams, as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The candidate for the position of Wireless Network Engineer must meet the following qualifications Bachelor’s degree or vocational training in a relevant field such as computer science, computer engineering, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training, experience.

Two years of experience in information technology, network engineering, or wireless networks.

Ability to design, deploy, and troubleshoot large-scale wireless networks with proven experience in troubleshooting isolation and remediation.

Experience with 802.11abgnac, RF design, and WLAN fundamentals.

Strong knowledge of LANWAN and network protocols.

Strong knowledge of monitoring tools and commands to ensure the quick resolution of issues.

Experience troubleshooting large-scale wireless networks, including client experience testing, wireless packet analysis, etc.

Experience designing controller clustering, failover methods and caveats, group management, AP modes of operation, patching, RF management, etc.

Experience with wireless optimizations, including AP placement, ideal signal levels, optimized roaming, spectrum selection, channel tuning, cell optimization, QoS, etc.

Experience with managing and documenting wireless networks and overlaying APs onto CAD (or similar) blueprints for heat mapping.

Ability to perform active and passive wireless site surveys.

Ability to understand and work with large, complex systems.

Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members.

Proven ability to provide both detailed information as well as summaries to management.

Proven ability to manage support cases with external technology vendors.

Demonstrated discipline and experience in recognizing and handling confidential and sensitive information.
