The Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Mission Systems & Autonomy (MS&A) software capability is seeking a Senior Space-based Image Processing Software Implementation Software Subject Matter Expert in Huntington Beach, CA.
The selected candidate will work with the BR&T Payload Products & Technologies (PP&T) product team focused on the concept, requirements, architecture, design and development of an advanced space-based imaging sensor payloads. The position will involve creating software products for space-based image processing.
The selected candidate will work with the PP&T product team on providing complete solutions, including systems engineering, optics design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, and electronics. The candidate will work with software product-line owner, program managers, and development leads to create common software products and tailor for use on a portfolio of customer-funded programs.
The successful candidate will work across programs to ensure software products are developed for commonality and tailored to meet mission need. The candidate will work with algorithm and development leads for space-based image processing software, firmware to ensure engineering excellence and achieve program objectives.
Position Responsibilities:
- Expert in image processing software, firmware, and FPGA implementation
- Serves as business portfolio and customer focal on space-based image processing software, firmware products
- Expert in MATLAB autocode optimization for performance and size
- Drive image processing software products and strategic reuse across all programs
- Drive image processing software execution to deliver products on-cost and on-schedule to programs
- Responsible for image processing software safety, assurance, quality, and engineering excellence
- Expert with all phases of product and software development lifecycle
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
This position requires the ability to obtain an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required) and ability to complete a CI (Counter Intelligence) polygraph after employment start.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- 10+ or more years of experience with the software languages C, C++, Java or Python
- 10+ or more years developing software in a collaborative team environment using agile principles and a structured development process including code reviews and DevOps processes/tools
- Experience with FPGA/firmware and/or embedded software design, development, debugging, and performing software integration, test, validation and verification
- Experience with MATLAB for data analysis and/or modeling and simulation
- Experience automating software builds, unit tests, integration tests, deployment, and installations using a DevOps tool chain (Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, etc)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Active Security Clearance
- Experience with missile warning, tracking algorithms
- Experience with new product development with small, agile teams on fast-paced, dynamic customer-funded programs
- Experience with fault tolerant architectures and designs
Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range: $161,500 – $218,500
