Were currently seeking a hyper-reliable, laser-focused and instantly trustworthy Payroll Manager to keep our people very happy.

This position currently will process payroll for 1000+ employees at three hotel properties in a multi-state environment and serve as back-up on occasion to other properties.The position is responsible for gathering timecards, ensuring they are approved and accurate, liaising with finance and operations to gather tips, gratuities and other incentive pay, and calculating and reviewing payroll. The Payroll Manager will also review and prepare work papers for quarterly and year-end, for union reports, and ensure that taxes are paid and all payroll laws and tax laws are followed, including Federal, California, local and union contract rules. The position requires the proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and ever changing environment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes and must possess advanced computer skills, be detail oriented, organized, reliable, able to multitask and have good written and verbal communication skills. CPP preferred.

The Opportunity:

  • Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes
  • Timely process bi-weekly multi-state payroll from beginning to end, including data loads for variable pay
  • Process adjustments, wage garnishments, loan payments, commuter benefits, employment verifications, and manual check processing
  • Ensure employee time records are accurate and properly approved prior to processing payroll
  • Ensure union pay rules and CA pay rules are followed
  • Provide quarterly and year end reconciliations and reviews
  • Liaise with accounting, operations and people departments
  • Provide data analysis in the form of spreadsheets and pivot tables
  • Assist with audits, reconciliations and reporting as needed
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Collaborate with state agencies for reporting accurate and timely information and responding to claims and audits.
  • Assist with testing as needed of the payroll system
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
  • Maintain confidentiality and safeguard payroll records

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • AA or higher degree in accounting or equivalent and CCP designation preferred
  • ADP and Workforce Smart Compliance experience preferred
  • Minimum 5 years payroll related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of general payroll practices and Federal and California regulations
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, ability to understand impact of payroll activity on financial statements
  • Expert understanding of time keeping, wage, and hour compliance requirements.
  • Proficient in Excel, pivot tables, PowerPoint, Word, ability to use payroll software platform
  • Ability to use mathematics to problem solve
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to approach problems, analyze solutions, and reach conclusions
  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance and able to work as part of a team
  • Travel required as needed
  • Due to month and year end nature of work, ability to work long hours on occasion and over weekends required as needed
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment without loss of accuracy of work product and output
