Director of Payroll

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage and oversee the administration of all payroll functions for approximately 1,200 employees in rapidly expanding non-profit organization.

Accountable for the accuracy and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll in accordance with federal, state and local regulations and wage/hour laws.

Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

Ensure accurate processing of payroll transactions and deductions for benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.

Supervise Payroll Coordinator and ensure internal controls and best payroll practices are adhered to.

Process the payroll in the absence of the Payroll Coordinator.

Develop and maintain payroll policies and procedures.

Work closely with other units within HR, and departments outside of HR including Programs and Finance to ensure coordination of paperwork and information between departments and Payroll.

Maintain payroll systems and report any issues to the Chief HR Officer.

Create bi-weekly, monthly, and other reports for management as required.

Manage and respond to all audits requests
– internal and external relating to payroll.

Work closely with the Finance department in compiling information for the CFR and 990s.

Review and approve requests for manual payroll checks and payments for vendors.

Review and make recommendations for alternate payroll software as we consider changing payroll providers.

Ensure W2s are issued accurately and timely.

Responsible for annual accrual entries.

Promptly respond to any payroll-related questions from employees and managers.

Monday
– Friday, 9:00am
– 5:30pm QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field strongly preferred.

Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal controls and payroll taxes.

Solid experience processing and managing payroll.

Experience as head of payroll or director of payroll preferred with strong supervisory and leadership skills.

Excellent knowledge of payroll processing software with experience running ADP Workforce Now preferred.

Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Familiar with wage/hour legislation and federal, state and local tax laws.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with team members.
