Vice President, School-Age Child Care & Day Camp

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Senior Program Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Childcare- Youth Development, and Teen programming of the YMCA. The scope of responsibility includes management of all programs (as assigned) and facilities, staff, volunteers, membership, within the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. In addition, the position is responsible for participating the Valley Childcare Cluster Meetings and additional trainings. This position is a senior leadership member of the branch management team responsible for the overall management of the YMCA

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, recreation management, physical education or equivalent (preferred)
  • Minimum of five (5) years of management experience (YMCA Program Director, preferred)
  • Knowledge and demonstrated competence in implementing best practices in Child Care programming & community development, state licensing requirements, facility management, volunteer and staff leadership development, program operations and financial development; Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Multi-Team or Branch Leader Certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  1. Establishes with the branch leadership team long range plans for the expansion of the Childcare, Youth Development, and Teen programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives.
  2. Staff Supervision and Development
    1. Develop systems for measuring levels of productivity within departments. Provide leadership to affect change and raise the quality of service provided to member constituency.
    2. Perform frequent on and off site inspections of programs and act as a resource to supervisory staff.
    3. Provide direct supervision to Program Directors (as assigned).
    4. Evaluate staff performance annually providing coaching and feedback.
  3. Provide training for staff on an on-going basis through staff meetings, personal consultation, special courses and workshops. Document training records accordingly.
  4. Lead the branch management team to set the pace for successfully executing the Strategic Plan. Provide leadership in providing continued direction for positioning the branch to be successful in its outreach into the community.
  5. Provide leadership to Program Directors with regards to managing programs and facilities in order to meet operating plans.
  6. Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and adjust program offerings accordingly. Implement new programs as needed.
  7. Review and evaluate community programs, services and enrollments and report findings to Executive Director.
  8. Implement and maintain active parent/participant committees in key program areas.
  9. Ensure that required programs meet all state and federal licensing guidelines and that all necessary licenses and accreditations are acquired and maintained.
  10. Oversee development of budgets, and manage approved budgets accordingly: Submit variance reports monthly to Executive Director. Manage forecasts to meet operating plan.
  11. Work closely with program directors to reach monthly, quarterly and annual budget goals.
  12. Ensure that all program directors have the skills necessary to manage their own budget, variance reports and forecasts.
  13. Acquire and manage grants in an accurate and timely manner (if applicable).
  14. Oversee department spending and obtain authorization accordingly.
  15. Work with staff and volunteers to meet Community Teams Division recruitment and financial goals.
  16. Identify and cultivate major donors for all levels of fundraising including major gifts, sponsorships and capital.
  17. Provide leadership to the development and delivery of all facility and community-based programs in accordance with established standards and guidelines.
  18. Identify, recruit, train and recognize a high number of volunteers in program and committee participation.
  19. Develop and support a year-round fund raising program which includes the annual current support campaign.
  20. Assist with the management of the overall Divisions of the Annual Campaign based on calendar and chart of work.
  21. Assist the Executive Director in planning for meetings of the Association and assist in the preparation of reports of the meetings to the Board of Managers; Assist the Executive Director in keeping the Board of Managers informed and advised on programs, practices and activities of the Association.
  22. Plan, design and implement promotion plans with measurable objectives.
  23. Recruit, hire and place staff using screening tools and panel interviews to gain the best possible fit with each vacancy.
  24. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  25. Manage growth in the number of volunteers and the number of volunteer opportunities available within the department.
  26. Coordinate effective cultivation and solicitation strategies with the Executive Director, campaign leadership, volunteers and the Board. Initiate scheduling of donors and key staff and volunteers.
  27. Ensure accurate and consistent tracking of member and volunteer involvement on a regular basis.
  28. Assist the Executive Director in the identification and cultivation of board members and committees.
  29. May ensure the maintenance of facilities and properties of the branch to assure high standards of maintenance, safety, cleanliness and to assure that the requirements of regulatory codes are fully met.
  30. Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  31. Develop strong relationships with the Board of Managers and act as a liaison in motivating, recognizing and engaging them in the branch operations.
  32. Develop a volunteer team to lead a successful Annual Giving Fundraising Campaign.
  33. Develop a strong Y presence in the community forming professional relationships with key community leaders. Research and develop satellite prospects for program growth within community.
  34. Represent the YMCA in the local community including attending local organizing meetings.
  35. Serve on various internal and external committees.
  36. Responsible for participation & planning of the Valley Childcare Cluster Meetings and additional trainings, as needed.
  37. Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  38. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
  39. Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, and Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.

  41. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
