Position Overview:
Provides Grifols employees based in the US access to medical and health services with the objective of providing for optimal safe, efficient, and productive operations and optimal employee relations.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Provides Grifols employees based in the US access to medical and health services with the objective of providing for optimal safe, efficient, and productive operations and optimal employee relations
- Provide and coordinate pre-placement physical exams, ongoing health assessments and employee health counseling and wellness coaching
- Provide Hearing Conservation Program via audiometric testing, health education, referral and follow-up to appropriate resources, counsel and instruction on personal protective equipment, equipment selection, and evaluation of hearing protection compliance
- Administer Vision Testing Program via vision testing, referral and follow-up to appropriate resources, assist by providing recommendations on personal protective equipment specific to employee health need. Evaluate visual capabilities of the employee to determine if individual can perform the primary and essential functions required for the job according to cGMP standards
- Provide occupational health services to plasma center locations throughout the US. Perform telephonic triage of injury events to determine the level of care needed for the injured worker
- Create medical records including: Employee Medical Files, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring Records, Workers Compensation carrier forms, disability records, medical surveillance records and logs and return to work notes
- Administer Respiratory Protection Program via arrangement for onsite and off-site testing and periodic physical examinations, education in the proper use of personal protective equipment, evaluation of respiratory program compliance
- Collaborate with Health Management Services management in the formation of expense and capital budgeting for all Occupational Health Department activities. Comparison shop and order all supplies and equipment for the department, evaluation for cost, quality, and service
- Conducts new hire assessment and orientation as needed
- Serve as a rotating on call staff member for all Grifols US based operations
- Works with the Return to Work Case Manager on certain cases as needed; which includes conducting case management of claims, interacting with injured workers, HR and medical providers, gathering relevant information to assist in claim evaluation, managing to conclusion lost time claims
- Coordinate Employee Assistance Program and work/life balance activities by serving as liaison between employees and contractor counselors, reviewing quality of service and results with upper management. Recommend enhancements or improvements to the program including supervisory training topics
- The Staff Nurse RN will serve as a lead in managing the immunization programs
- The RN administers all immunizations to employees per CDC recommended guidelines
- Grifols vaccination program includes the following job-related risk vaccines: Hepatitis B Vaccine, Rabies, Tetanus and Diptheria; the RN will conduct applicable testing to determine whether further injections or titers are required
- The RN will serve as a lab lead while providing support to QA and R&D lab operations and also traveling to nearby sites to perform venipuncture
- The RN will respond to onsite emergencies and will be the lead in determining treatment needs; Will coordinate arrangements for emergency transportation and the appropriate medical referrals after initial treatment is rendered
- The RN should work to stay abreast of current changes in the field of occupational health by attending regular meeting hosted by a professional organization in their local area
- The RN is expected to make regular rounds through the manufacturing, plasma and support areas of plant as part to maintain or increase awareness of the respective areas
Skills/Qualifications/Education Requirements: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to work independently and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Position requires graduation from an accredited Bachelor of Science or Associate Degree in nursing program; State licensure is also required
- A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience in Occupational Health Nursing, medical assessment, emergency medical care, clinic work, and/or public health nursing. Incumbent must be licensed to practice nursing in the state of North Carolina/California (depending on location). Certification via the American Board of Occupational Health Nursing COHN-S OR COHN is preferred
- Incumbent knowledge should include an overall understanding of occupational health; Training in CPR, emergency first aid, immunology, ergonomics, and experience with industrial hygiene monitoring
- The Staff Nurse RN reports directly to the Clinical Nursing Supervisor & the RN serves as the site expert medical authority pertaining to medical decisions which must be made
- The Staff Nurse RN consults with the national medical consultant physician but is expected to make decisions based upon a combination of written directives, legal requirements, precedent, and previous experience.
- The RN is regularly in contact with physicians who are providing non-occupational and occupational medical care and rehabilitation for employees. During these discussions the RN must know the employee’s job, discuss work restrictions with the attending physician, and reach consensus with the physician about job placement. This often requires restrictions of work. These dialogues are sensitive and very important to the operation of the facility.
- Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements.
Work is performed in an office and a clinical environment. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear and gloves. Exposure to electrical office equipment. Frequently sits for 4-6 hours per day. Frequent movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Color perception/discrimination required. Occasionally walks. Often performs duties standing. Frequently bends and twists neck and waist. Light to moderate lifting and carrying objects with a maximum lift of 35lbs. Frequently drives to other facilities. Able to communicate complex information and ideas so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Works with little need for guidance or reliance on oral or written instructions from management. Performs a wide range of tasks with little predictability of occurrence. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Must work with diverse groups to obtain consensus on issues.
