SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for completing the assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of both chronic and episodic disorders to assigned clients (adult and adolescent population); plans, implements, reviews, and confirms health care goals for assigned clients; remains responsible for the client(s) throughout the course of the treatment; determines when the client has recovered and recommends release of the client. As appropriate, refer the client to physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment but retains responsibility for clinical management as well as any subsequent modification; may also review the use and effects of psychotropic drugs and other medications as well as the characteristics of mental and emotional disorders. On-going collaboration with the treatment team to assure effective communication and treatment goal implementation.

ESSENTIALS DUTIES

Diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illnesses for the adult and adolescent population
Prescribe/Titrate/Manage all necessary medications and treatments
Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments/examinations/follow-up care of patients
Develop and implement patient management policies and procedures
Facilitate referrals to other psychiatric professionals and medical facilities
Communicate with collaborating psychiatrist or specialist regarding patient care
Involve staff in psychiatric interventions, gathering information from them and discussing the limitations and abilities of the participant
Provide crisis intervention as needed
Provide other psychiatric services required by the target population
Participate in Treatment Planning Meetings
Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives
Attend all education and training requirements
Provide coverage as needed

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in psychiatric or other medical fields
Ability to build rapport with patients
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong leadership qualities
Ability to work in a community-based setting

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES

Have the appropriate license to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner including a DEA license and Mal Practice Insurance

DESIRED EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing school with an advanced degree as Psychiatric Nurse

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED: Registered with the Board of Nursing

REQUIREMENTS

Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
Valid California Driver’s license.
TB clearance.
Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
Fire and Safety Training*.
First Aid Training Certification*.
CPR Certification*.
Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI)**

* Note: If indicated certifications/licenses are lacking, they must be obtained within 180 days of hire.

**Training needs to be completed within 30 days from the date of hire on a designated date provided by onboarding. Staff needs to be certified at the commensurate level for their role to perform their job duties (staff will be taken off the schedule if certification is not achieved).
