We are seeking a Respiratory Care Practitioner II Neonatal who will report to the Director of Cardiopulmonary Services and Clinical Coordinator of the Respiratory Therapy department, this position is responsible for administering and charting all aspects of respiratory therapy depicted by the respiratory care practitioner license under the supervision of the medical director.
In this position you will:
Promote patient, physician, customer and employee satisfaction by personal example, treating all contacts with respect
Support and participate in activities that foster customer service
Communicate and follows the organizational chain of command for notification of patient care/service issues, when appropriate
Maintain required applicable licensure, certification and education
Attend and successfully complete general and department orientation, in-service programs and the annual key competencies and mandatory update requirements
Participate actively in department staff meetings.
Demonstrate effective verbal and written communications
Communicate effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.
Applicable for the populations: Infant, Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric
Initiate and maintain continuous mechanical ventilation and oxygen therapy procedures involving oxygen masks, nasal cannulas, hoods or oxygen tents
Administer primary patient care following department policy and procedures.
May perform the following procedures; endotracheal intubation, positioning and securing endotracheal tubes, withdrawing blood samples, thorescentesis and suctioning airways
Assume responsibility for the prompt and/or routine execution of physicians’ orders relating to respiratory therapy patient care
Administer medications to respiratory tract, including: bronchodialators, decongestants, wetting agents, mucoidal emulsifying agents, steroids, antibiotics, surfactant and any other FDA drug approved for such application
Respond to high-risk deliveries and neonatal resuscitation occurring in delivery, Surgery, or N.I.C.U., P.I.C.U or E.R
Examine chest x-rays for gross abnormalities, endotracheal tube placement and abdominal film for proper catheter placement
Maintain (set-up and cleaning) department equipment, including all equipment related to transport incubator
Clean, replace or replenish necessary equipment and supplies in the NICU, pediatrics, PICU and any area assigned during the shift.
Initiates and processes a charge for all therapy and/or procedures administrated
Maintain chart of therapy particulars on appropriate Respiratory Therapy flow sheet including; date, time, type of procedure, length of procedure, method of administration, daily protocol, patient assessment, etc
Record new order information on the appropriate forms in proper places; informs clinical coordinator and others that may be affected by all new orders
Accept accountability as a lead therapist when requested
Demonstrate willingness & ability to float to areas within their scope of practice as necessary
Qualifications:
Required qualifications for this position includes:
Graduate of a program for Respiratory Therapists
RRT required for all new grad Respiratory Therapist applicants hired on or after 1/1/15 are grandfathered as CRTs
Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) within 6 months of hire
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Current LA City Fire Card within 90 days of hire
Knowledge of medical terminology related to neonatal intensive care
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
Two (2) years of neonatal experience
