Overview Under the supervision of the Medical Director & Clinic Administrator, provide medical services to patients, ensuring appropriate and professional medical services.
Responsibilities 1. Performs and documents health appraisals on womens health patients, including history, full physical and pelvic examinations and developmental evaluation as indicated, also orders laboratory work and/or x-rays as indicated for patient assessment, and identifies findings which require consultation and referral.2. Manages common acute problems in accordance with standardized procedures, and collaborates with physician in management of more complex or chronic problems.3. Assesses problems/needs when patients telephone between clinic visits, performs tele-video visits, arranges for appropriate follow-up on referral, and consults with physician when indicated.4. Reviews clinic patients laboratory work and addresses and documents abnormalities and changes with the patient. Involves supervising physician and nursing staff as needed to assist.5. Performs full evaluation, care and treatment of obstetric patients in all trimesters, including patient physicals and first trimester ultrasound dating.6. Diagnoses and manages genital cancer, including management of cervical cancer and HPV screening, colposcopy as needed.7. Completes clinical breast exams and cancer screening.8. Provides patient counseling services on topics including pregnancy, nutrition, contraception, menstrual disorders, menopausal symptoms, immunizations and other conditions and topics necessary for the care of women throughout the life course..9. Manages all types of contraceptive and other medications associated with the care of OB/GYN patients, including placement of IUDs, implants.10. In collaboration with MFM, evaluates, manages and treats complicated obstetrical conditions, including but not exclusive of diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, fetal growth disorders and other high-risk conditions.11. Administers non-stress fetal monitoring tests.12. Monitors and advises pregnant and postpartum patients on diabetes glucose control.13. Performs limited ultrasonography of the fetus(es) when present, including but not limited to position, amniotic fluid indexing, estimated fetal weight, evaluation of cardiac activity.14. Acts as liaison with outside agencies, physicians and schools, refers patient to outside resources as indicated.15. Active participation in the Quality Management Program, Utilization Review, Peer Review, AltaMed Medical Provider activities, and AltaMed’s On-call schedule.16. Performs other tasks as required for patient care and efficient functioning of the department.
Qualifications 1. Graduation from an accredited Baccalaureate school of nursing.2. Graduation from an accredited Graduate womens health nurse practitioner program.3. Completed training in the diagnosis and management of common as well as some complex medical conditions.4. Current certification as Nurse Practitioner by the CA Board of Registered Nursing.5. Current Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number by the CA Board of Registered Nursing.
6. Current certification through The National Certification Corporation as Womens Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC)7. Minimum of two (2) years professional experience in womens health care post-degree required.8. Previous experience with computer-based systems required; Electronic Medical records experience required.9. Completion of the AWHONN Perinatal Orientation and Education Program and Fetal Heart Monitoring Program courses required within 6 months of hire.
