As a Preanalytics Associate, you will play a vital role in the process.

A Preanalytics Associate works in conjunction with Preanalytics processing routine specimens in accordance with protocols established by Ascend Clinical.

As a Preanalytics Associate you will process specimens, perform some test preparations, do specimen verification and tracking, as well as all related clerical functions and general clean-up tasks.

You will specialize in specimens not meeting standard requirements and assist in determining cause and resolution.

Has knowledge of and complies with Ascend Clinical policies and procedures: general policies and Exposure Control (blood borne pathogens), Chemical Hazard, Illness and Injury Prevention Program and Quality Assurance Program.

Understands the hazards associated with failing to follow those procedures.

Understands laboratory workflow and the role of Preanalytics in the laboratory.

Organizes work for large batch processing appropriately.

Prioritizes tasks and organizes work for efficient completion.

Documents in a clear, concise and thorough manner.

Sees that all paperwork is completed properly during the shift.

Performs all tasks necessary for the safe, smooth and efficient operation of the department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Receives, unpacks and recycles specimen boxes Identifies and documents specimen packaging deficiencies and sample issues Load samples for automated receiving and sorting Manually receives samples Delivers received and sorted tubes to departments for testing Prepares send out samples and other samples requiring centrifugation and processing Organize reference testing for scheduled pickup Contact clients directly to resolve problem specimens Assists Client Services with inbound and outbound calls if needed Actively participates in facility’s Quality Assurance program Identifies and records nonconformances on Corrective Action Requests Identifies and records potential nonconformances on Preventive Action Requests Corrects nonconformances and potential nonconformances Improves laboratory and/or quality activities on a continuous basis Assists in orientation of new staff members, as directed by Management Assumes responsibility for special projects, as directed by Management Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required, Associate or Bachelors Degree preferred 1 year job-related experience required Background in chemistry, math, medical terminology, knowledge of specimen preparation techniques, and principles of operation of common laboratory instruments Ability to follow instructions with accuracy and perform detailed tasks thoroughly and completely Capable of performing repetitive work with a high degree of precision Capable of working biologic specimens in a safe manner Ability to maintain high standards for all production work with timely completion Good organizational skills Strong knowledge of lab equipment and procedures Able to read, write, speak, understand and communicate satisfactorily in English both in person and on the telephone __________________________________________________________________________________ Ascend is an Equal Opportunity Employer
