The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles.

The Department of Radiology at Keck School of Medicine of USC is recruiting a leader for the abdominal imaging section.

The new section chief will be a full-time, fellowship-trained, ABR-certified or -equivalent radiologist who will be appointed at a rank that is commensurate with experience and qualifications. 

The abdominal imaging section is comprised of 16 diverse faculty members with broad expertise in all modalities and subspecialties.

Specific areas of clinical and research strength include radiomics, urologic imaging, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, fetal ultrasound, and cancer imaging.

The section has strong collaborative relationships with the numerous clinical divisions at the Keck Medical Center of USC and Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, including transplant surgery, urology, gastroenterology, oncology, internal medicine subspecialties, and radiation oncology.

Significant research collaborations also exist with the Viterbi School of Engineering along with many other centers and institutes on campus.

The ideal section chief candidate will have strong demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills, with a substantial record of scholarly achievement.

The ideal candidate will also have significant clinical expertise in abdominal imaging with experience in operational management.

The new section chief will supervise abdominal imaging operations across the entire health system, including the Keck Hospital of USC, Los Angeles County USC (LAC+USC) Medical Center, and Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

A major strength of the department is the rich clinical experience derived from the tremendous variety in pathology and patient population throughout all the sites, which are conveniently located on a single medical campus adjacent to downtown Los Angeles.

There are extensive opportunities for research and other scholarly activities, both within the department and in collaboration with other departments.

The department provides dedicated research infrastructure including a grants manager, study coordinators, and statistical support .

The abdominal imaging section currently has nearly $2.5 million in NIH funding.

A long-standing commitment to didactic and “at the workstation” teaching is a core value of the department which supports a highly competitive training program of 42 residents and 15 fellows from across the country.

The new section chief will help shape the next generation of abdominal imaging experts and leaders.

State-of-the-art equipment include multidetector and dual energy CT scanners, GE 3T MRI, and Siemens 1.5T and 3T MRI scanners as well as Canon and Philips ultrasound units.

Fuji Synapse PACS workstations are employed throughout the department, and multiple 3-D workstations are also present at all sites.

The department has a clinical image processing laboratory for advanced 3D visualization/printing and imaging post processing.
