The company is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader that provides propulsion and energetics to the space, missile defense and strategic systems, tactical systems and armaments areas, in support of domestic and international markets.Aerojet Rocketdyne seeks a Health & Safety Specialist Engineer for our Canoga Park, California facility.The Health and Safety Specialist, will have a strong background in industrial hygiene and will be responsible for a variety of health and safety programs, such as hazard communication and safety data sheet management, office and industrial ergonomics, confined space, hearing conservation, control of hazardous energy, machine guarding, and bloodborne pathogens.Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):The candidate will oversee and audit all aspects of these programs to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations, and will work with SH& E management to implement best practices within the enterprise’s comprehensive safety management system.

This includes:EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSKnowledge of:Applicable local, state, and federal SH& E codes, regulations, and proceduresHazard analysis techniques and methodsProper use, handling, and storage of chemicalsScientific methods of observation and analysisData gathering techniques and various systems for organizing and interpreting dataStatistical and research concepts, methods and proceduresInstructional training aids, and materials necessary for developing, coordinating, and implementing SH& E education and trainingprogramsCommunication skills and techniques required for gathering, evaluating, and transmitting informationPreparation and presentation of inspection or investigative reports and research projects relating to SH& E and prevention programsVarious computer systems, data management, and program planningPractices of budget preparation and administrationAbility to:Maintain, prepare, and use monitoring equipmentPrepare a variety of technical reports, graphs and charts, and maintain accurate records and filesPerform professional work in the research, compilation, analysis and presentation of SH& E dataTrain other employees in all aspects of assigned programsAddress groups and conduct SH& E trainings or workshopsCommunicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingInspect working environments, prepare technical reports, and make recommendationsEstablish and maintain effective working relationships within the organization and other governmental agenciesConduct SH& E inspections and accident investigationsAnalyze situations accurately and take effective actionDetect unsafe or noncompliant conditions and practicesInterpret codes and standardsSustain the site’s Cal-OSHA VPP statusUse various computer systems to develop safety statistics for the purpose of monitoring trends and establishing appropriate corrective actionsOperate effectively in a team environmentRequirements:Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Ergonomics, Industrial Hygiene, or Safety related discipline and nine (9) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Master’s degree preferred.7+ years of experience within a health and safety roleCertifications (CIH, CSP, CHMM) are preferredAbility to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demandsBeing fully vaccinated for COVID-19 is a condition of employment at Aerojet Rocketdyne.

While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc.

requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.E.

steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection.

Some positions may require Respirator clearance.

Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas.

Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto.

Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary.

This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
