Director of Public Relations

Our client, a government agency responsible for attracting international visitors to their country, is looking for a Director of Public Relations to join their organization.

In this role you’d be the owner of the PR program, supporting the brand positioning and marketing activities for North America.

This position is based in LA or NYC.

Responsibilities: Develop and implement public relations strategies and activities for the region, ensuring integration within marketing mix and delivery of objectives.

Partner with an agency to manage the media profile in-market including managing media relationships, developing proactive press office programs, responding to media inquiries in a timely manner, generating and distributing media materials, responding to media issues, monitoring and clipping media.

Oversee the development of quality editorial content to be used across media channels which could include but is not limited to image selection and the scripting of press releases, fact sheets, feature stories, newsletters, brochures, magazine copy, trend reports, destination guides, online materials, speeches and presentations.

Develop and implement the annual International Media Hosting Program plan and (including inviting media, key opinion leaders and broadcast programming to the country.

Develop and implement local advocacy programs that provide opportunities for the organization to work with key influencers and advocates who will tell the country’s stories to their own networks.

Manage in-market PR and advocacy events including SXSW.

Report and manage any issues that may influence the reputation of the organization or the country as a leisure destination.

Work with and building mutually beneficial relationships with State Tourism Organization teams and representatives and east coast government representatives Develop and implement promotional strategy and activities (including affinity partnerships and content generation work), including idea generation, with industry and non industry partners to maximize exposure to the country as a tourist destination.

Take a strategic lead, working with the Regional Marketing Manager, on the development of social media activities in the market.

Develop and review regional communications documents that outline activities in the region as well as communicate our planned activities to stakeholders internal and external.

Supervise a Public Relations Specialist.

Experience Required: 10 years of experience in public relations either in-house or in an agency setting with a strong focus on the travel and tourism sector.
