This is a great opportunity to work in Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Southern California Design Center in Long Beach, California, as an Experienced structures design engineer.

Our Structure Design organization supporting Boeing Commercial Aircraft (BCA), Boeing Defense Systems (BDS) and Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) is seeking experienced to senior level Structural Design Engineers with knowledge of design theory, engineering principles, and coordination skills.

In this role you will contribute as a member of the Core Structures Design Team, helping with development and release of primary aircraft structural components.

This role may require some travel to support our customers and provide learning experiences to enhance your career. This role also offers flexible work schedule options while supporting our onsite coordination with telecommuting opportunities when on-site coordination is not required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, integrates and documents structural and component level requirements to establish product design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods.
  • Provides product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
  • Work under minimum supervision.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

The selected candidate will be required to perform work onsite in Long Beach, CA. 1 day of telecommuting is optional.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in one of the following engineering majors: Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Civil or select STEM degrees.
  • 5 or more years of experience in aircraft structure, materials and properties, design criteria and release processes, including aircraft primary structure design.
  • Experience with engineering tools such as CATIA, ENOVIA, and PDM is desired.
  • Ability to support regular and emergent domestic or international travel to support our customers. (Willing to travel a minimum 5% of the time).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with structural design principles for aircraft primary structures (e.g., fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, materials strength, material characteristics, and repair techniques).
  • Experience in Airplane Design, Stress Analysis, Liaison Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering strongly preferred.
  • 1 or more years of experience with Boeing 7-Series Aircraft Primary Structures is desired.
  • Strong written, verbal communications and presentation skills.

Typical Education/Experience: 
In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor).

Mid-level (Level 3):

Typically, 5 years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience).

Experienced (Level 4):

Typically, 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience).

Senior (Level 5):

Typically, 14 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years’ related work experience, Master+12 years related work experience).

Travel: 10%

Pay Range:

Mid: $95,600 – $128,900

Experienced: $124,700 – $161,000
Senior: $143,700 – $188,900
