This includes designing a variety of user interface components, across VR, MR and the mobile. The goal is to develop a flexible, appealing and extensible visual design system that supports mixed modes of interaction including spatial patterns as part of our Quest devices.In this role, you will be working closely with your cross-functional partners to define, specify, document, and create a world-class design system. As part of your responsibilities, you will establish the visual style and overall direction for the Quest OS. You will also mentor and guide designers across several core experience teams within the Reality Labs product ecosystem.Your work will be instrumental in bringing our product visions to life, playing a key role in integrating VR/MR and mobile into a seamless experience. As you navigate through ambiguity, you will apply your visual design, interaction, and systems thinking skills to develop best-in-class UI for undiscovered use cases, new patterns and multimodal inputs & interactions.You’ll serve as an advocate for design solutions, using solid rationale and strong communication skills. Your clear understanding of what brings delight to UI will guide your development of a visual design language that works well, inspires and captivates users.Tasks will include developing and iterating visual design systems for VR and interactions, encompassing visual architecture, organization, iconography, typography, color, spatial design, motion and interaction. Collaborating with UX designers, researchers, and engineers, you will iterate and refine these visual design systems and present to leadership.You will create impactful presentations, detailed design specifications and work closely with engineers to understand system limitations and requirements. Visual Systems Designer, Reality Labs Responsibilities: Visual Design System Architecture: Define, extend and maintain the visual design system alongside relevant components and interactions ensuring consistency and alignment across the entire ecosystem. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with UX managers, designers, engineers, and product managers to understand technical limitations, requirements and transform them into intuitive and aesthetically pleasing UI. User Testing: Regularly participate in user testing evaluating the aesthetic and functionality of the solutions, resulting in qualitative and quantitative data that will be used to iterate and optimize on the design. Prototyping: Work with the prototypers to create high-fidelity prototypes to visualize and test design concepts, including motion and interactions to facilitate decision-making and engineering handoffs. Design Quality Advocacy: Champion design quality across the organization, mentoring designers and evangelizing the importance of quality to our product’s success Documentation: Document visual design specifications and help create asset libraries for use by the product teams. Minimum Qualifications: 8 years of experience design experience with a portfolio of visual and/or interaction design roles with an emphasis on Design Systems. Visual design skills, including an experience understanding of typography, composition, color theory, and design principles. Proficiency in industry-standard design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and prototyping tools. Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the experience of translating complex systems into user-friendly interfaces. Proven communication skills, with the experience to articulate design decisions and feedback effectively to various stakeholders. A portfolio that demonstrates relevant works, a understanding of best practices in UI design, user-centered design process, and a track record of shipping high-quality products. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with VR hardware and limitations, and the experience of create designs that work well within these constraints preferred.
