The AutoCAD Designer & Drafter will play a key role in creating detailed technical drawings based on specifications, collaborating with cross functional teams to translate concepts into precise drawings for various projects, ensuring all drawings adhere to company standards and project deadlines; key responsibilities include generating models, maintaining drawing files, and coordinating with team members, while continuously learning and staying up to date with latest relevant software.

A typical day looks like:
- Developing surface models, processing data, and CAD drafting utilizing Trimble Business Center.
- Utilize surveying principles to coordinate systems as well as geospatial data management.
- Spot errors in point clouds, alignments, and surfaces before resulting in field issues.
- Efficiently handle large datasets, importing/exporting files, and maintaining organized project structures.
- Resolve discrepancies in survey data, design files, and machine control models.
- Create accurate linework, breaklines, contours, and deliverables for construction.
- Preparing models for machine guidance.
- Work with surveyors, engineers, and field personnel to refine models and meet project needs.
- Staying updated on new TBC features, plugins, and industry best practices.
- Strong grasp of paving cross-sections, joint layouts, crown adjustments, and smoothness requirements.
- Creating models for Trimble PCS900 or other machine control systems used in stringless paving operations.
- Model not just finished pavement, but also subgrade layers, ensuring proper thickness and drainage.
- Setting up alignments, profiles, and stationing to match design intent and ensure proper transitions.
- Check for elevation discrepancies, incorrect slopes, and mismatches between design plans and the real-world site.
- Communicate with paving superintendents, foremen, and surveyors to troubleshoot and refine models.
- Staying updated on new Trimble Business Center features, paving technologies, and evolving DOT and contractor requirements.
Do you have what it takes?
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associates degree or relevant certification preferred.
- Strong grasp of survey principles, coordinate systems, and geospatial data management.
- Strong CAD & Drafting Abilities
- Proficient utilizing Trimble Business Center including data processing, surface modeling, and CAD drafting.
- Experience with Field-to-Office Workflows – Understanding how TBC integrates with GNSS, total stations, drones, and field software.
- Machine Control & Site Prep Knowledge – Experience preparing models for machine guidance (Trimble Earthworks, GCS900, etc.).
- Experience with Control & Alignment Management
- Roadway & Paving Design Knowledge
- Understanding of Stringless Paving
- Experienced with Data Validation & QA/QC
- Surface & Subgrade Modeling
